Aide to Democrat Governor Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges

In another stunning story of Democrat-connected lawbreaking, an aide to Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey (D) was caught trafficking cocaine and with an illegal firearm after being intercepted by investigators with packages carrying pounds upon pounds of the illicit and valuable narcotic. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.

In fact, according to local media, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office revealed that multiple parcels were seized going from an address in Atlanta to Massachusetts through Louisville, and Homeland Security Investigations found that the packages contained a total of about 12 kilograms of cocaine.

Further investigations revealed that the packages, each of which weighed about 18 pounds, were being shipped from the Atlanta address to a guest under the name “Morgan Gordon” at Hotel UMass in Amherst, MA. The packages were apparently imprinted with the word “GOLD” as a label.

The packages were then shipped to the hotel while being surveilled by law enforcement officers. However, no guest with the addressed name was there, so the packages got moved to the mail room and were taken in as evidence by the Massachusetts State Police. From there, it was discovered that 45-year-old LaMar Cook, the aide to the governor, was involved.

In fact, LaMar, who previously worked as a director for the state-run Hotel UMass facility was observed in the mail room, suspiciously checking and retrieving other packages shipped by UPS. According to investigators, one such pound was retrieved by LaMar on October 3 also weighed about 18 pounds; two more had been delivered by September 26. Both shipments came from Florida, and LaMar picked them up at the hotel.

The big break came on October 24, when investigators discovered another package labeled “GOLD” and discovered it to be carrying yet more cocaine. An undercover officer then posed as a delivery driver as normal, and LaMar was arrested when he arrived to meet with the officer and receive the package from him.

After arresting LaMar, the police served a search warrant on his home, where they found, along with an undisclosed but presumably large amount of cash, a 9MM Taurus G3 handgun and ammunition for it. Cook does not have a firearm license, making his possession of the handgun illegal in Massachusetts.

Commenting on the arrest and the charges brought against LaMar, the Hampden DA’s Office stated, local media reported, “The investigation into the UMass seizure remains ongoing and may result in additional charges related to the prior shipments in Hampshire County.”

A spokesperson for the governor’s office then revealed that LaMar had been fired “effectively immediately” after the governor’s office had learned of his arrest on Tuesday, October 28. That spokesperson said, Fox News Digital reported, “The conduct that occurred here is unacceptable and represents a major breach of the public trust. This criminal investigation is ongoing, and our administration will work with law enforcement to assist them in their work.”
