In some temporary bad news for Republicans that could turn into the good news of a real conservative getting elected, a now-turncoat state representative in the blue state of Oregon named Cyrus Javadi announced his defection from the GOP to the Democratic Party for the 2026 election. Even before his betrayal, Javadi had often voted with Democrats on issues such as LGBTQ+ rights and transportation funding, prompting his own voters to call for a recall.
In a series of whining statements, Javadi claimed that the Republicans had left behind values like freedom of speech and fairness. After her announced his decision, House Speaker Julie Fahey and constituent Ketzel Levine praised his swap for partisan reasons.
Explaining his decision, Cyrus Javadi refused to take responsibility. He stated, “Too many extreme politicians in today’s Republican Party have abandoned these values, which is why I made the decision to join the Democratic Party. I’m not leaving my principles, just aligning with people who still share them, still show up to govern, and are more interested in bipartisan solutions than obstruction.”
Claiming to act as a non-partisan, the treacherous Democrat claimed to work without considering partisan politics. “I will look at each policy and make sure that the rights of women are considered and that we don’t make it any more difficult for women to have an abortion. I don’t come to a bill with a preconceived idea of what I’m going to do. I want to listen and make sure that I can understand the nuances that are in there,” he alleged.
Rep. David Gomberg (D-Otis), who represented a part of Javadi’s district before the 2021 redistricting, offered insight into Javadi’s purple district. He related, “We certainly care about the quality of our schools, the cost and availability of health care, the cost and availability of housing and the quality of our roads.”
Reacting to this betrayal, Evergreen PAC, who fund many Oregon Republicans, issued a statement. “That mission is not affected by today’s announcement. Instead it strengthens our work, and our caucus, to advance those ideals by giving the North Coast the opportunity to support a new leader who will put the needs of their communities above themselves,” the PAC noted.
House Speaker Julie Fahey took to social media to welcome the turncoat into her party. “I’ve watched him put aside partisan differences and take principled stands in service of addressing the big issues his constituents and the people of Oregon are facing, the Democrat claimed.

As we reported, Cyrus Javadi previously went on a self-serving media tour, waxing lyrical about his supposed motivations. The newly minted Democrat said, “Being an elected leader has never been about party loyalty to me. It’s been about how I can best fight for our community and our state.”
Concluding his comments, he laid out his opposition to the Republican Party by describing their positions. “Protecting Medicaid benefits for the nearly 60% of children in Tillamook and Clatsop counties? Opposed. Keeping rural hospitals afloat? Opposed. Preserving students’ access to books that reflect who they are? Opposed. Protecting the First Amendment rights of people different from ourselves? Opposed. Time after time this past session, it was Democrats who stepped up to support the priorities of the coast, even though I wore the other team’s jersey,” he said.
