Controversial Democratic Candidate for Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones was faced with harsh criticism from incumbent Jason Miyares over the revelation that there is an ongoing criminal investigation into Jones’ 116mph reckless driving case. Additionally, Miyares argued that a recent text message from Jones, which advocated violence against a Republican leader and another crime, could disqualify him from office.
For context, New Kent County appointed a special prosecutor after the local Commonwealth’s Attorney recused himself due to a conflict of interest in the case. Others have drawn attention to he fact that Jones served his community service hours working for his own PAC. The case at issue regarding Jones’s DUI is still open and ongoing, meaning the AG candidate has an active case against him in the system.
That is a major problem for Jones, and key political bludgeon for the right. Announcing his findings in a statement, Jason Miyares blasted his opponent. “It is not possible for Jay Jones to fulfill the duties of the attorney general while under an open criminal investigation,” Miyares declared in a statement that echoed the opinions of many conservatives.
Building on this point, he added, “If Jay stays in the race, it shows a contempt for voters never seen in modern Virginia political history. Now we learn that he may have misled the courts to avoid jail time for recklessly driving 116mph. He has not taken accountability for his words or actions.”
As the American Tribune reported, Joens has also faced backlash for his recently revealed texts advocating violence against a GOP lawmaker and his family. In yet another condemnation, Jason Miyares noted, “Jay Jones has shown he’s reckless, biased, and willing to trade away his integrity… This conduct is disqualifying.”
Doubling down, the principal Republican continued his comments. “If you believe it is okay to wish death upon a political opponent — vote for my opponent… If you believe it is worth the death of children to advance your political goals — vote for my opponent. If you want to give a green light to violent lunatics — vote for my opponent. I cannot imagine someone running for this job who advocates for violence,” Jason Miyares stated.
Likewise, Winsome Earle-Sears, the VAGOP’s candidate for Governor, slammed Jones. She said, “The enemy is among us, devouring us in Virginia and in America today… Jay Jones fantasizes about murdered little children lying lifeless in their mother’s arms. And yet he runs for attorney general, our chief law enforcement officer. The leadership of the Democrat Party is inciting violence as a strategy to win power.”

In his own epic rebuke, President Trump slammed these inexcusable texts. “It has just come out that the Radical Left Lunatic, Jay Jones, who is running against Jason Miyares, the GREAT Attorney General in Virginia, made SICK and DEMENTED jokes, if they were jokes at all, which were not funny, and that he wrote down and sent around to people, concerning the murdering of a Republican Legislator, his wife, and their children,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
Continuing his comments, he noted, “Abigail Spanberger, who is running for Governor, is weak and ineffective, and refuses to acknowledge what this Lunatic has done. Even Democrats are saying it is ‘RESIGNATION FROM CAMPAIGN’ TERRITORY. Democrat Jay Jones should drop out of the Race, IMMEDIATELY, and the People of Virginia must continue to have a GREAT Attorney General in Jason Miyares, who, by the way, has my Complete and Total Endorsement — JASON WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
