In a somewhat vulgar but nevertheless very entertaining post on X, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) X account trolled California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) with a picture from the October 18 “No Kings” protests that took place all over America, leading to an angry, fuming comment from the California governor.
As background, the first “No Kings” round of protests occurred over the Trump Administration’s crackdown on crime, particularly illegal immigration, in the sanctuary city of Los Angeles, being sparked by the administration’s deployment of National Guard troopers and other federal resources to the city. A second round of the protests, utilizing the same name, was held on October 18th, more generally in response to Trump’s crackdowns across America.
Governor Newsom, for his part, took a stand on X in support of the round of protests, saying, for example, “Today, Californians joined millions nationwide to say loud and clear: NO to authoritarianism. NO to assaulting our democracy. NO to censorship and fear. NO to hate and division. NO to corruption and cruelty. NO to kings. YES to a government by and for the people.”
Similarly, in another post on the matter, he said, “Civil rights and freedom. Pluralism and nonviolent protest. The values Americans cherish are under assault by @realDonaldTrump. THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and California will keep peacefully pushing back against the Trump Administration’s authoritarian takeover.”
So, the Department of Homeland Security, which has been most attacked by protests like the “No Kings” rallies because Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) serves under its aegis, fired back at Newsom in an entertaining post that included a picture of a protester at a No Kings rally who was dressed as male genitalia. The post was captioned, “Breaking: Gavin Newsom has shown up to the riot!” Newsom fumed in response, snapping back, “You’re an embarrassment.”
President Trump, for his part, has remained virulently opposed to Gov. Newsom, particularly as the fight between the federal government and sanctuary jurisdictions heats up. In one post on Truth Social, for instance, he said, “Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls. He is viewed as the man who is destroying the once Great State of California. I will save California!!! President DJT”

In another post, the president went on the attack against both Newsom and the Maryland Governor, writing, “Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked, in a rather nasty and provocative tone, that I “walk the streets of Maryland” with him. I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a “walk.” Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other “Blue States” are doing. But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the “troops,” which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime.”
And, in yet another, he wrote, “Wow! Mayor Muriel Bowser of D.C. has become very popular because she worked with me and my great people in bringing CRIME down to virtually NOTHING in D.C. Her statements and actions were positive, instead of others like Pritzker, Wes Moore, Newscum, and the 5% approval rated Mayor of Chicago, who spend all of their time trying to justify violent Crime, instead of working with us to completely ELIMINATE it, which we have done in Washington, D.C., NOW A CRIME FREE ZONE. Wouldn’t it be nice to say that about Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and even the Crime Drenched City of Baltimore??? “
