Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) sounded off after a mob of leftists, many of them lawmakers, “stormed” his office on Tuesday, October 14, demanding that he swear-in a newly elected representative while also berating a Capitol Police officer and tearing down signs around his office.
As backgroudn, those involved were Democrat Representatives Pramilia Jayapal (D-WA), Melanie Stansbury (D-NM), and Nanette Barragan (D-CA). Joining them were Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ), the one at issue who has not been sworn in by Speaker Johnson, and members of the staff of each member of Congress.
At issue is that Grijalva won her special election on September 23, but has not yet been sworn into office. Her vote would be the final one needed for members of the House needed to approve a discharge petition related to the Epstein files, one that had been put forward by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). The petition would demand the DOJ release the Epstein files.
In any case, the motely collection of leftists linked arms and chanted “swear her in” as they tried to press into Speaker Johnson’s office, but they were blocked by Capitol Hill police officers from doing so, and so they ended up getting into a verbal altercation with one of the officers and messing with a sign in front of the speaker’s office.
Angrily commenting on the incident after it occured, Speaker Johnson said in a press conference that the irresponsible lawmakers and their leftist staffs had just tried to create a political stunt by berating and screaming at some Capitol police officer who had merely been trying to do his job.
The Speaker said, commenting on that aspect of the ridiculous situation and infuriating stunt, “They stormed my office. Maybe you saw some of the video online that they themselves shared or someone did, they berated a Capitol Police officer, screamed at him. He was just merely standing at his post.”
Continuing, Speaker Johnson noted that those involved showed the usual Democratic lack of respect for law enforcement officers, saying, “It shows again their disdain for law enforcement, as we see all around the country, the Democrats and everyone in that party screaming, assaulting ICE officers. They did it right here in the Capitol last night.”

He further added, commenting on the generally buffoonish nature of what happened, explaining, “A few members of Congress went into the little foyer of my office and tore down a sign that I had up and, and just engaged in all sorts of political stunts and antics.” Watch him comment on it here:

Johnson, for his part, has mainly remained focused on the shutdown. In a recent post, for example, he praised President Trump for paying the troops despite the shutdown, saying, “I was in the Oval Office when President Trump warned Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries not to shut down the government and hurt hardworking Americans. When they ignored that advice, PRESIDENT TRUMP ACTED — ensuring our troops got their paycheck and keeping important programs running for women, infants, and children. But those can only be temporary fixes. Democrats MUST do the right thing and VOTE TO END their shutdown.”
