Mike Johnson, Trump Skewer the Democrats and “No Kings” Protests

Speaking in a statement to Fox Business Network, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) went nuclear on the “No Kings” protests that roiled the nation, noting just how ridiculous it all was, and why he isn’t hopeful that his Democratic colleagues are regaining their sanity and will vote to end the Schumer shutdown and fund the federal government.

As background, the “No Kings” protests that first occurred in conjunction with the Trump Administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration in Los Angeles, reignited in the wake of the administration’s crackdown on Antifa, which it claims is a terror network that needs to face significant law enforcement reprisals.

So, on Saturday, October 18, yet more such protests occurred, with millions of leftists all over America turning out across America’s major cities to protest the administration. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson commented on the matter, noting how ridiculous and absurd it all is.

Speaker Johnson said, commenting to Fox Business on the buffoonish collection of nonsensical policy priorities that is the “No Kings” push, “It’ll be a collection of wild leftist policy priorities, and that’ll be on display for the whole country. After that’s over, I hope there’s a few Democrats over here who will come to their senses and return to governing the country.”

Continuing, the Speaker of the House noted that Democrats might have wanted to keep their left flanks secured by not backing down to Republicans before the protests, saying, “Right now, I don’t think — it’s my assumption and all of ours that they would not make that concession before that rally’s over because they don’t want to face the angry mob. I mean it’s sad, but that’s where we are.”

Similarly, Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA) noted that Democrats should be showing up to work at Congress to pass a budget rather than showing up at random, pointless protests across the country to get media credits from their radical base. He said, “My guess is if they don’t want a primary from the left, they’ll probably find a way to sneak it into their schedule. The real question that’s going to be is, do they have the fortitude after Saturday to come back and open up the government?”

Continuing, the Republican congressman explained that the Democrats clearly want media notoriety and approval from their base rather than show up to work at Congress and finally pass a budget that reopens the government. He said, on that point, “They should be doing it today. But if they feel like they’ve got to appease their base, then they better come to Jesus on Sunday and figure out a way to help them get back to the business of taking care of the American people.”

President Trump, for his part, noted that the protests were very dumb, given the state of the shutdown, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get things approved.” He further added, “A king would never have the California mandate to be talking about. He wouldn’t have to call Mike Johnson and Thune and say fellas, pull this off and after years get it done.” Watch him here:

In contrast, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries declared that the administration needs to be pushed back against, “But I support the right of every single American to participate in the rallies that are going to take place this week and showing up to express dissent against an out-of-control administration.”
