Speaking in an utterly absurd segment of his podcast back in late May of 2025, Democrat political strategist James Carville claimed that President Joe Biden is a tragic figure in American history because of how his decision to withdraw from the election too late was such a disaster for the Democrats, claiming as he did so that Biden is one of the “most accomplished Americans.”
As background, Carville is generally known for his realistic takes, as least in comparison to the sort of nonsense pushed by many in his party, though it would appear that he is prone to delusions such as this one, delusions that seriously diminish his credibility as a “sane” political strategist for the Democrats.
In any case, speaking during the late May broadcast of his “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville commented on the state of things in America and claimed, as he did so, that former President Biden is a “tragic” figure whose legacy is largely one of immense accomplishment. “I cannot begin to express how tragic this is,” Carville said.
Continuing, Carville made his utterly astounding claim about Biden’s relative importance and level of accomplishment, saying that “He’s one of the most accomplished Americans” since World War II, an utterly absurd take given Biden’s paucity of even lasting political achievements and status as a nearly lifelong politician.
In any case, Carville then pointed to the various positions into which the former president’s connections to the Democratic political machine put him as evidence of his supposed accomplishments on par with America’s greatest men, saying, “If you just look at what he did as chairman of the Judiciary, Foreign Relations, Vice President, President.”
Adding to that, Carville praised Biden for making hay, often by lying, out of familial tragedies, saying, “and you look at the tragedies of his life and distress that he’s exhibited, and he’s a well-liked, very admirable person.” But, Carville added, the decision to drop out so late has cast a shadow on his legacy, saying, “and he made one colossal mistake, and the Democrats made a colossal mistake by going along with it.”
Still not done, Carville said, “And that is staying in the race until July 21, 2024. And it breaks my heart. It’s just so sad.” Contrasting that with where he sees the president’s political star as having been earlier in the year, he said, “Joe Biden on New Year’s Day of 2024 stood as a titan of modern American history.”

Continuing with his rambling delusions about the greatness of the senile former president, Carville said, “He’s a man that deserved everything that we could give him other than reelection.” Concluding, he added, “We pretty much know the parameters of what happened but there’s plenty of specifics left. It’s pretty much the saddest f—— thing you could imagine.”
Slamming Carville’s claims in an entertaining X post, conservative author Jack Watts said, “I agree with Carville, but the question is, what did Biden accomplish? As I see it, it was all destructive. According to Trump, Biden allowed 21 million illegals into the USA, and his judicial appointments are dead set on refusing to allow us to deport them.”
He continued, “On the world stage, after our disastrous retreat from Afghanistan, our allies ceased to trust us and our enemies stopped fearing us. That was quite an accomplishment. We were subjected to DEI nonsense nonstop for years and forced to abide by the New Green Deal, which made no economic sense. There are lots of other things as well, making Biden the king of negative accomplishments.”
