In a hugely important series of comments on Tuesday on Sinclair’s “The National News Desk,” Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer explained that the Trump Administration could use the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to crack down on the funders of Antifa and similar leftist radical groups.
For reference, the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) was founded by Schweizer in 2012, and focuses on tracing the money trail to discover corruption, crony capitalism, and malfeasance in the public sector. Schweizer has, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination at the hands of a leftist radical, taken to using that focus to go after Antifa and its funders.
Such is what he did when speaking to reporter Geoff Harris on “The National News Desk,” with Harris beginning by noting, “Along with the Trump administration, multiple research groups are actively working to track down who’s funding Antifa, both at the individual and organizational level. I’m told part of that research starts with following the money trail.”
Continuing, he noted that Schweizer has worked to link Antifa and related organizations with various non-profits, saying, “Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute, tells us many activist groups are linked to nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status. Oftentimes getting money by large grant-giving foundations.”
Responding, Schweizer told him that the money here can actually be traced reasonably easily so long as the proper amount of time, attention, and focus are applied, as forms regarding distribution of funds have to be filed with the IRS. He said, “So they’re required to disclose to the IRS and something called a 990 form. So you can trace a lot of the money that way.”
Harris, chiming back in, noted that many of those involved in the whole scheme have been bragging about supporting some of the noxious groups involved. He explained, “In other cases, Schweizer says, you can also find people bragging about the support they’ve offered and given to certain groups.”
Schweizer, for his part, noted that there is a highly relevant amount of information regarding the flow of money to these groups and who is directing it. He said, “The information that comes out is not always a complete picture, but I think it’s a pretty good indicator of who the money is coming from and who is receiving the money and what they’re using it for.”

Harris then pointed to the recent Trump Administration Antifa roundtable, noting that Associate Director of Research at the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) Seamus Bruner had noted that links between Antifa and Soros, amongst other groups, have already been found, “At President Trump’s Antifa roundtable last week, Schweitzer’s colleague Seamus Bruner sharing with the administration what they found so far, pointing to guy investigations showing coordination across cities like Portland and Seattle involving people who are paid to participate in the unrest, naming some major funding sources like George Soros, his Open Society Foundations.”
Bruner, for his part, pointed in that meeting to billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundation, the Tides Foundation, and foreign donors such as Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss as being involved in what he called “Riot Inc.”, adding as he did so that RICO could and would be used to hold them accountable.
