Federal agents from ICE and Border Patrol arrested a WGN creative services employee, a U.S. citizen, after vehicles blocked in federal agents in “an effort to impede and assault federal officers,” while throwing objects at officers.
For context, a wide range of woke activists bore witness to the arrest and issued several breathless statements about it, opposing ICE and President Trump. The woman was eventually released, and no charges were brought against her.
In any case, the woman who was arrested yelled, “Debbie Brockman. I work for WGN. Please let them know.” Additionally, onlookers jeered, “Fascists. Get out of our neighborhood, get out of our city,” while officers did their jobs.
Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement providing vital context. “The US Border Patrol was conducting immigration enforcement operations, and when several violent agitators used their vehicles to block in agents in an effort to impede and assault federal officers. In fear of public safety and of law enforcement, officers used their service vehicle to strike a suspect’s vehicle and create an opening,” he explained.
Building on this point, she explained how, “As agents were driving, Deborah Brockman, a US citizen, threw objects at the border patrol’s car, and she was placed under arrest for assault on a federal law enforcement officer.”
Reacting to the arrest, Nancy Molden, a local resident, complained that “It was absolutely horrifying. That was the most frightening thing I have seen in Chicago, living here 20-odd years.” Another local activist, Giordana Mahn, whined, “I’m scared for my community. I’m scared for anyone who is Black or brown. You’ll see in the video that the [WGN employee] wasn’t Black or brown…they are terrorizing anyone. Everyone in Chicago.”
Still not done, Mahn continued her dramatic retelling. “She was walking east. We were driving west, and that’s when I took out my phone. They had just, like, tackled her and brought her into the street. That’s when I asked her, ‘What’s your name?’” she said.

Josh Thomas, another witness, said, “I heard yelling and screaming and honking. I ran downstairs to see what was going on. It looked like Border Patrol agents in a minivan had slammed some lady to the ground. And so, I ran up to her and asked her for her name. She said she was a WGN employee.”
Additionally, he noted how, “I didn’t get his name, although I asked for his name. He didn’t speak excellent English. They claimed that the WGN employee was obstructing justice, even though she was, like all of us, just standing there, taking video. It’s terrifying for the community. When I came back upstairs to my condo, my son was crying and asked me what was happening and if people were going to come take him.”

Rounding out the comments, an Unidentified man, who witnessed the arrest, described the arrest. He claimed, “We didn’t even see it coming. It was swift and fast. We were screaming to leave him alone, leave him alone.”
