Democrats are Freaking Out as Longtime Blue State Looks Increasingly Likely to Flip Red in Key Gubernatorial Election

The 2025 gubernatorial race between Democrat Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey is tightening up, with the GOP surging in mail-in ballots. Democrats are freaking out over Sherrill’s “stumbles,” her scripted style, and weak messaging on affordability, noting she is “better on paper” than on the campaign trail.

She has been beset with scandals, including a hesitancy to respond to allegations of insider trading, poor messaging on rising energy costs, and a persistent cheating scandal dating back to her time at the Naval Academy.

In any case, polls show a close 43-43 tie, and many sources believe that turnout will determine the election’s results, as only 84,000 votes decided the 2021 race. Adding more context, Scott Presler, of Early Vote Action, provided a path to victory for the GOP.

In any case, anonymous Democrats painted a dim vision of the race in New Jersey. These staffers described a “series of stumbles” and an unclear message, explaining that Sherrill was “a better candidate on paper than in reality.”

Additionally, Irene Lin, a Democratic strategist, described the Democrats’ horrible campaign. She noted how the campaign “has spent a fortune on polling and has no message beyond she flies helicopters and Ciattarelli loves Trump,” warning that “tired anti-Trump attacks aren’t enough.”

While speaking to Breitbart News, Scott Presler described exactly how the GOP can sweep the state. “Do you know, Matt, how many Republicans stayed home in 2021, the year after 2020? 600,000. The election was decided by 84,000 votes. Two hundred and fifty thousand gun owners in New Jersey are not registered to vote. If our beautiful gun community or Second Amendment advocates registered and mobilized and voted, New Jersey would be a Republican state — would be a red state,” he explained.

Still not done, he contrasted his party to the Democrats, saying, “Democrats don’t believe in ‘all of the above’ approach to energy, like Republicans do.” Pivoting, he blasted the woke candidate, saying, she“can’t even account for the fact that she’s made $7 million while being a member of Congress.”

Still not done attacking her character, he noted her past mistakes. “What is Mikie Sherrill thinking, not being honest about the fact that she can even walk with her class at the Naval Academy, and if you talk about integrity and honesty, why is Mikie Sherrill not being honest about that scandal that happened? And so really this race, this is 50/50,” the strategist said.

Making his recommendations more transparent, he added, “This is tied. Jack Ciattarelli is poised to win the governorship, but we need big, beautiful turnout. Drop it off to your local county elections office. You can turn it in in person, and if you are vehemently opposed to mail-in voting, I ask you right now you mark on your calendars October 25.”

Concluding his comments, the insightful conservative said, “Every single vote is going to count, and the fact that Republicans are having a higher percentage return rate on mail-in ballots truly is unprecedented, comparative even to 2021. I’m telling you, this race is winnable.”
