Speaking in a video that took the internet by storm once again on September 27, notorious RINO Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announced that she is considering switching parties to the Democratic Party, comments that, understandably, infuriate Republicans because of what they show about her current loyalties.
For reference, the video was originally recorded in late June of this year, but went viral again on X on Saturday, September 27, thanks to the “Defiant L’s” X account, which reposted it mid-morning on the 27th in a post that quickly got hundreds of thousands of views. “Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she might switch parties,” the account said.
At the time that Murkowski made the comments to media outlet Semafor, she was not only up in the air for whether she would vote for the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” for which she ended up voting, but also trying to promote her book about being a RINO, “Far from Home: An Alaskan Senator Faces the Extreme Climate of Washington, D.C.”
In any case, in the clip that exploded online when she made it in late June and then again in late September, Murkowski noted that she had been asked repeatedly to switch parties, saying, “I would be not being honest with you if I said I’ve never been asked … ‘Why don’t you switch?’ Or people have said, ‘You should switch.’”
Then, using that to somewhat dodge the question of whether she had actually considered switching sides and leaving the MAGA-dominated Republican Party so that she could join the Democratic Party, she said, “Have I considered it? Yes, because I’ve been asked the question.”
Changing tacks slightly, she suggested that the GOP doesn’t feel like her “poiltical home” anymore, saying, “Do I feel that within my Republican conference, I always feel like I’m right here in my political home? No. There’s some directions and policies that I disagree with.”
However, she did note that the Democrats have major issues too, saying, “As challenged as I think we may be on the Republican side, I don’t see Democrats being much better.” She continued on that point, “They’ve got not only their own share of problems but, quite honestly, they’ve got some policies that I just inherently disagree with.”

Then, when asked if she would leave the GOP to become an Independent who generally caucuses with the Democrats, Sen. Murkowski said, “It’s an interesting hypothetical.” She added that she might do it “if this would help Alaskans.” She further added, “I have to figure how I can be most effective for the people that I serve.”
She later added, on much the same note, “There may be that possibility.” And, while she insisted that such discussions are purely hypothetical, at least for now, she still seemed positive about the idea of leaving the GOP if doing so could be justified to her constituents, particularly the idea of becoming an independent who works with the Democrats, generally.
Murkowski later added that she’d like to see a system that includes “different political thoughts” as “a different way of looking at how we are addressing our problems, rather than just saying it’s red and it’s blue.” She added, on that point,“There’s some openness to exploring something different than the status quo.”
