The 65th Grammy’s took place on Sunday, and Ben Affleck has found himself becoming a running joke on the internet following his frowning display next to Jennifer Lopez at the show.
In the most viral such case, Affleck’s now fiancé Jennifer Lopez can be seen smiling, clapping, and dancing while Affleck looks like he’d rather be anywhere than there. One snippet of the video from Spencer Althouse on Twitter has surpassed 6 million views.
however bad of a day you’re having, I promise you’re not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammys right now pic.twitter.com/OQxA54H9P1

Stevie Wonder and Chris Stapleton were performing while the video was taken, and clearly, Jenny from the block was impressed. Affleck on the other hand? Ben looked like he was staring at a distant clock, as it ticked down until the end of the evening.
Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere. You can see his batteries draining in real time. Man is already at 23% 🪫 #GRAMMYs #SaveBen pic.twitter.com/Yv5zmzbPhr

One Twitter user summed it all up wonderfully with this short and succinct summation of Affleck’s expressions:
“Ben Affleck’s facial expression is every dad who ever had to take his teenage daughter shopping for a bathing suit.”
You can see him going through all of the same phases of grief, from “why are we in this store” to “you are not wearing that while you live under my roof.” Except, Ben doesn’t seem like he’s in charge on this one. In yet another clip, he’s seen getting what many think was a stern talking to from Lopez as she asks him to lighten up and enjoy the evening.

It’s worth noting that Affleck has, in the past, faced similar internet scrutiny for looking sad. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Affleck reflected on the “sad Affleck” meme that had become so popular on the internet:
“I got to a place where [the public perception] was so different from who I am that I just stopped reading and stopped caring. But then, as my kids got older and started seeing the internet themselves, that’s the difficult part. Even the “Sad Affleck” meme— that was funny to me. I mean, there’s nobody who hasn’t felt that way at a junket. But then my kids see it and I think, “Oh, are they going to think their dad is fundamentally sad or they have to worry about me?” That’s really tough.”
Last summer, following the secret wedding between Affleck and Lopez, Entertainment Tonight published news from a source about the state of the relationship between the two:
“They feel like they are in the same place in life now and relate to each other on another level. Ben feels younger around Jen and like she brings out his best self. He loves that he doesn’t have to try very hard and can just be himself. Jen loves being around Ben no matter what they are doing. She thinks Ben is an incredible partner and father. She celebrates him for the good and they are both really there for each other. They’re so excited to make more memories together and have more adventures, both as a couple and as a family.”
