LAPD Ends Its Protection of Kamala Harris Just Days after Beginning Showy Use of Resources to Rebuke Trump for Ending Her Social Security Protection

In a significant breach of protocol, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) chose to provide security for former Vice President and failed candidate Kamala Harris after President Donald Trump revoked her Secret Service protection.

For context, Gavenor Newsom assigned California Highway Patrol officers, with the assistance of the LAPD, to ensure Harris’s safety. Eventually, internal critics pointed out the hypocrisy of diverting officers from crime suppression duties to securing Harris.

In any case, a source told the LA Times that Metropolitan Division officers who were supposed to be securing the streets in hard-hit areas of the city were ordered to provide personal security for Kamala Harris.

Adding more context. Jennifer Forkish, L.A. police communications director, explained the decision, noting,  “The department is assisting the California Highway Patrol in providing protective services for former Vice President Kamala Harris until an alternate plan is established. This temporary coordinated effort is in place to ensure that there is no lapse in security.”

However, in reaction to internal criticism, the Los Angeles Police Department ended the controversial security detail. Apparently, officers lodge criticisms that vital resources were diverted from crime suppression to protect Harris.

Much of the criticism came from the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union representing the LAPD, which described Harris’ security details as “nuts.” Continuing their takedown, the union wrote, “LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness.”

After the security detail was canceled, the union reacted with a celebratory post, “We are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multimillionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime.”

Unsurprisingly, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass took the opportunity to cynically promote her own career, saying, “The plan was always to provide temporary support, and I thank L.A.P.D. for protecting former V.P. Harris and always prioritizing the safety of all Angelenos.” Pivoting to the president, she whined, “Trump’s decision to revoke Harris’ security detail amounted to an act of revenge on a political opponent, and put Harris in danger.”

However, as we reported, Border Czar Tom Homan was refused Secret Service protection despite credible threats on his life by the Biden administration, contradicting Bass’ simplistic narrative. According to Matthew Strickland on X, “A few weeks ago @RealTomHoman called me and told me about some very credible threats to him & his family’s lives. The Biden admin refused to provide the incoming Boarder (sic) Czar with protection. In my opinion, the Deep State wanted him dead.”

In reaction to this and other instances of special treatment, Trump has been removing Secret Service protection from other DNC-related figures, such as Ashley and Hunter Biden. In a post to Truth Social, he announced, “Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer.”

Contextualizing the massive waste of these private security details, the president noted, “There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous! He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned.”
