Bobby Nunez, a Los Angeles tow truck driver who towed an ICE vehicle during an immigration operation, is now facing federal theft charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Reacting to the case, acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli criticized Nunez’s actions and noted how a viral video aided investigators in the crime.
For context, tensions have run high as Gavin Newsom, the woke governor of California, denounced the Trump administration’s use of the National Guard against violent anti-ICE protests. Essayli stated that the role of the military was to provide protection, rather than enforce laws. Additionally, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized ongoing law enforcement efforts against serious criminals, while pointing to a worrying 1000% surge in assaults on ICE agents
In any case, Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli slammed the truck driver for his illegal actions, saying, “Apparently, he thought it would be funny to interfere with our immigration enforcement operations. Now he can laugh behind bars while he faces justice. Nunez is looking at up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted.”
Speaking about the decision to call in the national guard to LA, he added, “The military will remain in Los Angeles. This is a false narrative and a misleading injunction. The military has never engaged in direct law enforcement operations here in LA. They protect our federal employees and properties so our federal agents can safely enforce federal laws in the face of the thugs being unleashed and encouraged by state and local politicians.”
Despite the numerous criminals taken off the streets, Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted the president in a bizarre social media post. The Democrat stated, “DONALD TRUMP LOSES AGAIN. The courts agree — his militarization of our streets and use of the military against US citizens is ILLEGAL.”
Providing additional context, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem described the real security risks facing ICE agents. She explained, “We will not and have not let this violence stop us or slow us down. Every day our law enforcement continues to enforce the law and arrest the most depraved criminals, including pedophiles, terrorists, murderers, gang members, and sexual predators.”
Unfortunately, this is far from the first case of anti-ICE violence in the state of California. As we reported, during a dangerous riot, a mob of up to 20 anti-ICE protesters attacked immigration agents outside a courthouse in San Francisco. Notably, one protester, Angelica Guerrero, referred to as Adrian Guerrero in some sources, allegedly threatened to stab an officer and harm his family while slashing an ICE vehicle’s tire.

However, some woke activists, such as Rachel Lederman, took a different tack. She stated, “First Amendment right to protest and the sidewalk is a public space that is traditionally allocated for that, there is also a Fourth Amendment right that protects you from unreasonable searches and violence by the police. Here, the ICE agents were immediately violent with the crowd.”
