In a very entertaining turn of events as President Trump does his best to crack down on the abominable levels of crime that occur in many of America’s Democrat-run cities, various Democratic politicians from Illinois went absolutely berserk over the news that National Guard troopers to Chicago to help crack down on crime.
As background, the whole thing began with Trump, commenting on the situation in DC and where will be next, saying, “To me, D.C. is very exciting and a lot of people say, ‘Whoa, where’s he going from there?’ Well, I have calls from politicians begging me to go to Chicago, begging me to go to New York, begging me to go to Los Angeles.” He added, “Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out probably next.”
Adding to that, he claimed that Chicago’s residents are calling for him to take that momentous step and solve their city’s massive crime problem. He claimed, “That’ll be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough. And the people in Chicago … are screaming for us to come … so I think Chicago will be our next and then we’ll help with New York.”
Then, The Washington Post made waves when it announced that the Pentagon had been long planning a military deployment to Chicago, with a potential operation involving deploying thousands upon thousands of members of the National Guard coming as soon as September. The operation would target crime and vagrancy while also help in dealing with the illegal immigration situation.
The Pentagon, for its part, refused to comment on the situation and say what is going on with planning for a Chicago crackdown. It said, “We won’t speculate on further operations. The Department is a planning organization and is continuously working with other agency partners on plans to protect federal assets and personnel.”
Mayor Brandon Johnson, angrily responding to the news and declaring that solving the crime problem in his city would be unconstitutional, declared, as ABC 7 Chicago reports, “What this president is attempting to do is not just unconstitutional, but it is very much a threat to our democracy.”
That’s not all. Freaking out in a statement a few days before, he said, “We are in active communication with our counterparts at the County and the State as we prepare for any potential unconstitutional military deployments to Chicago. The Governor, the Cook County Board President, and I are in complete alignment: Chicago is not calling for a military occupation of our city. We are currently evaluating all of our legal options to protect the people of Chicago from unconstitutional federal overreach.”

Continuing, he snapped, “In Chicago, we have effectively reduced all forms of violent crime by doing what works: constitutional policing, violence prevention, and investing in our communities. This past year alone, we have seen a more than 30% reduction in homicides, a 35% reduction in robberies, and an almost 40% reduction in shootings. We need to keep building on this work. No matter what happens, the City of Chicago will not waver. We are Chicago. We will not bend or cower, and we will never break.”
Also chiming in was Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat, who angrily declared, “What President Trump is doing in DC is purely political theater. His actions are creating chaos and sowing fear rather than making our nation’s capital safer, and now he says Chicago will be his next target.”
He added, “Chicago is a beautiful, vibrant city with people from all walks of life, which I see firsthand all the time. While there is more work to do, violent crime in the city has significantly declined in recent years. These unprecedented threats and manufactured emergencies from President Trump are nothing more than a power grab to distract from his disastrous policies like ripping 17 million people off their health care and raising costs for Americans. We should be focusing on proven bipartisan solutions to continue to reduce violent crime rather than using our brave men and women in uniform for political purposes.”
Further, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), posting about the situation on X, declared, “If it were about ‘law and order,’ he’d coordinate with local law enforcement. If it were about “health and safety,” he’d reinstate the millions in gun violence prevention funding he cut. Trump is trying to distract you from the Epstein Files and rising prices. Don’t let him.”
