Back in late June, the Supreme Court issued what might have been one of the most important decisions of the second Trump presidency, largely limiting the power of district court judges to issue nationwide injunctions blocking the president from enacting his agenda anywhere in the country. A key Republican group then issued a statement celebrating the victory and explaining its importance.
As background, in its ruling on a case regarding a nationwide injunction blocking the Trump Administration from enforcing its anti-birthright citizenship moves, the Supreme Court declined to rule on the birthright citizenship issue at hand but ruled against the use of nationwide injunctions.
In her ruling, Justice Amy Coney Barrett noted, “the universal injunction ‘give[s] the Judiciary a powerful tool to check the Executive Branch.’ But federal courts do not exercise general oversight of the Executive Branch; they resolve cases and controversies consistent with the authority Congress has given them.” She added, “When a court concludes that the Executive Branch has acted unlawfully, the answer is not for the court to exceed its power, too.”
In the wake of the late June victory, a key GOP group called the Republican Study Committee (RSC) chimed in to note the importance of the win and describe how it could help President Trump enact his agenda. For reference, the RSC is a conservative, congressional caucus that includes 189 GOP members of the House of Representatives.
Announcing its reaction to the massive ruling against the overreaching, rogue judges who had been using nationwide injunctions to block Trump, the RSC described the massive importance of the ruling because of how it blocks rogue judges. It said, “The Republican Study Committee (RSC) today applauded the Supreme Court’s landmark 6-3 decision crushing rogue judges’ power to issue nationwide injunctions—a decisive victory for constitutional order and the rule of law that delivers a massive blow to Left-wing judicial activism.”
Continuing, the statement went on to quote RSC Chairman August Pfluger as noting that this is a big win for America because it means rogue judges can no longer block the enactment of the results of the democratic process, saying, “Today’s 6-3 Supreme Court decision is a tremendous win for the American people. For too long, activist lower court judges have weaponized nationwide injunctions to override the democratic process.”
Continuing, Pfluger argued that this ruling shut down that misuse of the judiciary’s power for good and will crush the activism engaged in by the courts, saying, “SCOTUS has ended this judicial overreach once and for all. This ruling crushes Left-wing judicial activism and restores the constitutional balance of power where it belongs.”

Also chiming in was RSC member and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, who argued that low-level judges shouldn’t be able to block the president’s agenda across the country, saying, “Today’s decision is a huge victory for the separation of powers and the American people. Rogue district court judges should not be able to unilaterally delay President Trump’s agenda that 77 million Americans voted for this past November.”
Similarly, another RSC member, Rep. Brian Babin, was quoted as saying: “This is a critical victory for the rule of law and for the Constitution. Unelected activist judges should not have the power to override the will of the American people or stop the President from enforcing our nation’s immigration laws.”
Continuing, Rep. Babin explained, “The Supreme Court was right to rein in this judicial overreach and restore proper constitutional balance—where national policy is set by Congress, executed by the President, and interpreted by the highest court in the land, not dictated by a single lower court judge.”
Still another RSC member, Rep. Mark Harris, was quoted as well. Making much the same point and hammering the way that leftist, rogue judges have been able to act, he said, “Since President Trump’s return to office, Left-wing district court judges have been unilaterally impeding the agenda that the American people voted for in November.”
Concluding, Rep. Harris explained, “With each rogue ruling, they’ve declared that their power exceeds that of the co-equal executive and legislative branches. Our founders were clear: lower court judges have no power to single-handedly defy the President or the law, and I’m glad that the Supreme Court agrees.”
