Speaking to Sean Hannity about the state of the Department of Justice’s campaign against sanctuary cities in America, Attorney General Pam Bondi explained why the mission is so important and what very reasonable things the DOJ is demanding out of the sanctuary jurisdictions, noting that the effort’s importance has been shown by the horrible crash that killed three in Florida.
As background, the crash referenced by Bondi is one in which an illegal alien who entered America under the Biden Administration and received a license in California was working as a commercial truck driver when he tried making an illegal turn across the interstate and killed three Americans, a horrific incident that became a rallying cry for MAGA Americans.
Further, AG Bondi has been sending letters to America’s sanctuary jurisdiction leaders, informing them that their jurisdictions are considered sanctuary ones by the Department of Justice and will, if they do not back down, face lawsuits and criminal charges over their refusal to work with federal immigration authorities.
Beginning her comments to Hannity, Bondi explained that all the feds are asking is that these state and local officials do their jobs and work with the federal immigration officials to keep people safe. She said, “Better look out. I sent 32 letters to mayors, multiple letters to these governors. And you know, they say that we’re trying to tell them how to do their jobs. Yeah, we’re trying to tell them to keep America safe, and they need to keep America safe.”
Continuing, she referenced the horrible truck crash incident that recently occurred, explaining: “What happened in California was a perfect example. Gaddy Serralta to our US Marshal, he received the call from Florida Highway Patrol. They tracked this guy down, this illegal alien in California, and he had a whole lot of cash on him. When our US Marshals went and arrested him and caught him, and he was given a commercial driving license by the state of California.”
Using that to explain why sanctuary jurisdictions like California can’t just be left to their own devices, AG Bondi further noted, “So if the argument is, well, let us manage California. It doesn’t work that way. That guy came to our state and killed three of our citizens, and that’s why President Trump is not only going to protect Florida, DC, but every single major city, every city and every state in this country.”
Bondi further described the consequences of non-compliance and vowed that they will be enforced, with everything from lawsuits to a cutting off of federal funding on the horizon if they do not get their houses in order. She said, “So those letters we sent, we’re going to start looking at your funding. We are going to sue them if they are not in compliance, and they have to comply.”

Concluding, Bondi insisted that the Trump Administration will not let states like California continue to harbor criminal illegal aliens, and will instead ensure that Americans are kept safe. She said, “They cannot harbor criminals like California has done no longer in this country, because we are going to keep all of America safe thanks to the direction of Donald Trump.”
