FBI Director Christopher Wray, along with others in the top levels of the DOJ, has been subpoenad by Rep. Jim Jordan’s House Judiciary Committee.
The subpoena compells Director Wray to turn over documents and communications that the Committee characterize as being involved in the “misuse of federal criminal and counterterrorism resources” to target parents at school board meetings.
Fox News Digital, reporting on the subpoena, reported that “The subpoena compels Wray to produce all documents referring to meetings with U.S. attorneys’ offices in accordance with Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Oct. 4, 2021 memo, which directed the FBI to partner with local law enforcement and U.S. attorneys to identify parental threats at school board meetings against faculty and “prosecute them when appropriate.“”
Further, Fox News Digital added:
The subpoena also requires Wray to turn over all documents related to “both formal and informal recommendations” created or relied upon by FBI employees relating to meetings with U.S. attorneys offices, as well as “all documents and communications referring or relating to the EDUOFFICIALS threat tag.”
Wray is also required to produce “all documents and communications sent or received by the following individuals referring or relating to FBI investigations of school board threats: Carlton L. Peeples; Jay Greenberg; Calvin A. Shivers; Brian M. Cohen; Timothy R. Langan Jr.; and Kevin Vorndran.”
That “EDUOFFICIALS” tag, to whch those indivuals are related, is important because whistleblowers told Rep. Jordan that it was the threat tag that the FBI used to label dozens of investigations into parents and track investigations related to school boards.
The FBI confirmed the subpoena but disputed the characterization of what it was up to, saying, in a statement to Fox News Digital:
“As Director Wray and other FBI officials have stated clearly on numerous occasions before Congress and elsewhere, the FBI has never been in the business of investigating speech or policing speech at school board meetings or anywhere else, and we never will be. Our focus is and always will be on protecting people from violence and threats of violence. We are fully committed to preserving and protecting First Amendment rights including the right to free speech.”
“Attempts to further any political narrative will not change those facts.”
Attorney General Merrick Garland was subpoenad as well, as Breitbart reported, saying:
“You, the Honorable Merrick B. Garland, Attorney General are required to produce the following items in your possession, custody, or control, from January 20, 2021 to present, in unredacted form,” the subpoena states as it then lists out nine detailed items, all of which Jordan has requested from DOJ in the past to no avail.
The subpoena, among its list of demands, asks for:
All documents and communications between Mary Wall, Senior Policy Advisor to the President, and any Department of Justice employee(s) referring or relating to the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) letter dated September 29, 2021; the Attorney General’s memorandum dated October 4, 2021; or alleged threats or violence at school board meetings.
Jordan last reiterated this and all of the other requests on the subpoena to DOJ among a compilation of demands to the department on January 17.
Jordan has also subpoenad the Department of Education, as the Daily Caller reported, saying:
According to the subpoena, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is “commanded” to produce documents before the Judiciary Committee on March 1, 2023, at 9 a.m. ET. The subpoena comes as Jordan sent four letters to various officials Friday, calling for information and interviews the committee has been requesting, in a final warning shot before he sent the subpoena their way.
