In the latest episode of Democratic hysteria over President Trump’s decision to liberate Washington, D.C., from crime by federalizing the city’s police force and pouring in National Guard troopers and federal agents to assist the police in rooting out criminals and detaining illegal aliens, far-left Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) accused Trump of “oppression.”
For reference, Rep. Raskin’s bizarre and terrible comments came when he appeared on Monday, August 18, on MSNBC’s “The Weeknight” to discuss the matter of the federal crackdown on Washington, one that most conservatives see as just common sense, given the disastrously awful crime rate in the district.
Beginning, Raskin went absolutely berserk over the news that a few hundred National Guard troopers have been deployed all over the city to deter crime, saying, “They’re mobilizing the National Guard. They’re bringing that National Guard in from South Carolina, from Ohio, from West Virginia, from all these states. Why?”
Continuing, he angrily haggled about the legal technicalities of the National Guard deployment, snapping, “And what’s the precedent for that? I’m not even sure what the authority for that is. Under whose direction are they serving? Are they being directed by the governors of those states, or are they under President Trump’s direction now?”
Still not done with that continual rambling about the matter of federalizing the guard, he snapped, “But does that mean they’ve been federalized? Because I don’t believe they’ve been federalized. So this is just a recipe for chaos. And if this is the template for what he wants to do in all of these other so-called Democrat run cities, it is a recipe for chaos.”
Even more absurdly, the far-left member of Congress ridiculously complained that there is no “emergency” in the district, as if one of the first crime rates in the entire country isn’t an emergency. He said, “There’s no emergency here, and what we’re trying to do in Congress is simply to negate and reject the idea that there’s an emergency.”
Adding to that and commenting on the legal aspects of a state of emergency, the woke congressman said, “We’ve got the power to do that as soon as 48 hours pass over the declaration of an emergency. So I hope we’ll be able to get not just all the Democrats but enough Republicans to nullify the emergency. In any event, the emergency lapses after 30 days.”

Finally concluding, Rep. Raskin got to his line about the oppression of DC residents, bizarrely complaining that cracking down on crime and protecting residents from it is somehow tyrannical. He said, “I think that the whole region understands that oppression of people in Washington hurts everybody who lives in our region. And I know a lot of my constituents in Maryland’s eighth feel very strongly about the issue. We don’t want to see people’s rights being trampled there.”
Listen to him here:
President Trump, for his part, has posted, “Washington, D.C., has one of the Highest Rates of Crime in the World, more than many of the most violent Third World Countries. The City’s Homicide Rate is higher than places notorious for their violence, such as Mexico City, Bogota, Islamabad, and Addis Ababa — Almost ten times higher than Fallujah, Iraq. If D.C. were a State, it would have the highest Homicide Rate of any State in America.”
He added, in that post, “The Violent Crime Rate in D.C. has worsened, and the Murder Rate has essentially DOUBLED in just over a decade — But these are only the “official” statistics released by corrupt City Officials. The REAL numbers are many times worse. In fact, a Precinct Commander was just suspended for allegedly manipulating the Violent Crime Statistics, and the D.C. Police Union, likewise, says the real numbers are much higher.”
