Actor Dwayne Johnson, known as “The Rock” to many, praised God and “Angels of mercy” in an Instagram post on Thursday after his mother survived a horrifying car crash that left the vehicle ripped open. Posting about the crash, Johnson said:
“Thank you God 🙏🏾 she’s ok.
“Angels of mercy watched over my mom as she was in a car crash late last night.
“She’ll survive and continue to get evaluated.
“This woman has survived lung cancer, tough marriage, head on collision with a drunk driver.
“She’s a survivor, in ways that make angels and miracles real.
“Thank you LAPD & LAFD for being so caring & focused. Thanks for staying on phone and talking me thru it all.
“I got one parent left, so if you still got your mom and dad make sure you hug ‘em hard, cos you never know when you’ll get that 3am call we never want to get.”
The photo he shared of the car shows the Red Cadillacripped open from the front right side, exposing the internal parts of the car and indicating a severe wreck occurred. The driver’s side airbag also appears to have deployed.
The Rock’s father, Rocky Johnson, died in 2020 from a massive heart attack.
Commenters on the Instagram post were very kind, saying things like:
“I know exactly what you mean. I lost my only parent almost 6 years ago. That hole never heals and i miss my mom every day. God Bless yours and may she live forever”
“Praise God we love you angel mother!!!!!!!!!! Praise God in the name of Jesus you will ALWAYS be covered…. We love you mother!!! GRACE!!!!!”
“Brother, I am so sorry your mom endured this but very thankful to God she’s okay. I can only imagine the stress you felt in that moment. Sending love and prayer🙏🏽”

“Sending prayers. Praise God she’s ok”
The LA Times, reporting on the incident, noted “Representatives for the “Fast & Furious 6” star did not immediately respond Friday to The Times’ request for further comment. The LAPD and the L.A. Fire Department did not disclose any additional information about the wreck.”
The wreck was likely particularly traumatic for Johnson given that he has said he was raised mainly by his mother, as the LA Times reported, saying:
In March, Johnson told the Associated Press that he was raised primarily by his mother. While he also had a relationship with his father — pro-wrestler Rocky Johnson, who died in 2020 — the “Moana” star said his mother and grandmother “had a very clear agenda on how to raise me and what lessons I should be taught and what kind of integrity I should have as a little boy growing up.”
“My grandmother, my mom. My first wife, Dany Garcia, who is now a long-time business partner, my wife today, Lauren, my three daughters continue to influence and teach me daily,” he added. “Even my little ones. I have a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, and when you’re open and amenable, you’d be surprised as a man, just how much your daughters will teach you.
“I’m a completely different man than I was 20 years ago,” he said. “I had a career in professional wrestling that was on fire. The stuff you thought was important that you should sweat maybe 10, 15 years ago are so meaningless, actually. The most important things really are literally right in front of you [like family].”
