In a surprising moment of honesty, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) frankly admitted President Trump is “handily” winning the trade war. To support his assertion, Fetterman cited a new EU deal and optimism for a China agreement.
For context, Trump’s Liberation Day tariff strategy, launched in April, imposed reciprocal tariffs on a large number of countries. Not only did the 100%+ tariff force concessions from China, but other more aligned nations like the UK and Japan agreed to invest trillions in the US. Additionally, a 10% minimum tariff on all exports has generated $28 billion in July revenue, showing signs of economic gains.
In any case, the freshman Democratic senator was asked by a journalist to give his thoughts on President Trump’s performance in the ongoing trade war. The reporter asked, “[I’m] wondering if you think right now, Trump is winning the trade war. Do you agree with those who think he is?”
Responding honestly, the Pennsylvania Democrat said, “I mean, absolutely, I well, I think that. I mean, obviously, what happened at the EU, and again, I’m a huge fan of Bill Maher. And I mean, I think he’s really one of the oracles for my party. And he acknowledges, like, hey, he thought that the tariffs were going to tank the economy, and he acknowledged that it didn’t.”
Concluding his remarks, Fetterman gave several examples of Trump’s strong leadership in action. He declared, “So, I mean, so for me, it’s like, it’s, I mean, again, it seems like the EU thing has been going well and, and I guess we’ll see how it happens in China.”
Seator Fetterman is no stranger to crossing the aisle to side with President Trump, such as when he criticised the Democrats for their protests of Donald Trump’s historic address to Congress. Fetterman argued that the protests made his party look weak and immature while highlighting Trump’s presidential attitude.
In a viral post to social media, he slammed his party, saying, “A sad cavalcade of self-owns and unhinged petulance. It only makes Trump look more presidential and restrained. We’re becoming the metaphorical car alarms that nobody pays attention to—and it may not be the winning message.”

Echoing these remakrs, preident Trump took to Truth Social to make a firerly proclamation. he stated, “The Democrats should lose the Midterms based on their behavior at last night’s Joint Address to Congress… All Republicans must use their behavior on men in women’s sports, their very dangerous Open Border policy, High Energy and Taxes, and much else.”

Concluding his comments, President Trump predicted that voters would punish the left-wing politicians for their faux pas. He noted, “They didn’t even have the common courtesy to stand, smile, or applaud. This could be, on analyzing the full tape of this Historic Event, your full CAMPAIGN TO VICTORY! In other words, Republicans can take what happened last night and win any Race in the Country. Good Luck!!!”
