In an unexpected development, a House panel has voted to subpoena former President Bill Clinton, along with his wife, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. A recent motion, from Rep. Scott Perry, escalated the House Oversight Committee’s probe into Epstein’s case.
For context, there have been several worrisome ties between the Clinton family and Jeffrey Epstein. For instance, Bill Clinton wrote a note to Epstein where he congratulated him on his “childlike mind,” prompting mass speculation.
Explaining the subpoena, Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), described the scope of the investigation. The Republican leader said, “I have a motion to subpoena the following individuals to expand the full committees investigation into Miss Maxwell – and the list reads as follows: William Jefferson Clinton, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, James Brian Comey, Loretta Elizabeth Lynch, Eric Hampton Holder, Jr., Merrick Brian Garland, Robert Swan Mueller III, William Pelham Barr, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the third, and Alberto Gonzales. That’s the full list, Mr. Chairman. And that’s the motion.”
An aide, who works for the House Oversight Committee, offered additional insight into the proceedings and gave a timetable for next steps. The anonymous aide revealed that “The subpoenas will be issued in the near future.”
Speaking to his involvement with the controversial billionaire, Bill Clinton addressed the scandal in his 2024 book Citizen: My Life After the White House. The former president said, “I wish I had never met him,” and added that the friendship was “Not worth the years of questioning afterward.”
However, as we reported, Epstein’s birthday album, which was assembled by his former girlfriend Ghislane Maxwell, included a note from Bill Clinton. The former president wrote, “It’s reassuring, isn’t it, to have lasted as long, across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures and [illegible word], and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference and the solace of friends.”
Reacting to the subpoena, David Oscar Markus, Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorney, stated, “As for the Congressional subpoena, Ms. Maxwell is taking this one step at a time. She looks forward to her meeting with the Department of Justice, and that discussion will help inform how she proceeds.”

Even Democrats such as Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) celebrated the decision. He announced, “Today, Oversight Democrats fought for transparency and accountability on the Epstein files and won. House Republicans didn’t make it easy, but the motion was finally passed to force the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files.”
Concluding his remarks, the principled Democrat added, “Let’s be clear: this is a huge win for the American people. The public deserves to know who was complicit in Epstein’s heinous crimes, including people with immense power in our government. Today’s vote was just the first step toward accountability, and we will continue pushing for the truth.
