Democrats Go Berserk after Trump Reveals Plans to Detain Illegal Immigrants on Military Bases

In the latest incident of Democrats going berserk over President Donald Trump’s plans to ramp the fight against illegal immigration up dramatically, far-left politicians in New Jersey are losing it over the Trump Administration’s recently announced plans to house detained illegal immigrants on military bases in New Jersey and Indiana.

As background, the two bases that the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security have said will be used, in part, as “temporary soft-sided holding facilities,” are Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and Camp Atterbury in Indiana. This is not out of character for the bases, which were used to temporarily house thousands of Afghan refugees following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Announcing the decision in a letter sent to relevant members of Congress, Secretary of Defense Hegseth said, “Consistent with Section 2815 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 (Public Law 114-328), I am writing to inform the Committee that I certify that the provision of Department of Defense real property at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, for temporary use by the Department of Homeland Security to house illegal aliens will not negatively affect military training, operations, readiness, or other military requirements, including National Guard and Reserve readiness. I am sending an identical letter to the Committee on Armed Services of the U.S. House of Representatives and Members of Congress representing the area in which the real property is located.”

Still, Democrats have insisted that the move will harm military readiness and is totally out of line for Hegseth to engage in. In fact, in a fury-filled letter sent after the move was announced, they shouted at Hegseth via the written word, claiming not just that readiness might be harmed but that the general anti-illegal immigration tack of the Trump Administration is inhumane.

The fury-filled letter was sent to SecDef Hegseth by Reps. Herb Conaway, LaMonica McIver, Donald Norcross, Rob Menendez, Frank Pallone, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Josh Gottheimer, and Nellie Pou. Also joining in were Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim. Rep. McIver is the Democrat who was arrested for assault when she attacked federal agents during a protest at another detention center.

In the letter, the group of Democrats first claimed that the Trump Administration’s anti-illegal immigration policcies are “radical” and “inhumane,” saying, “This is an inappropriate use of our national defense system and militarizes a radical immigration policy that has resulted in the inhumane treatment of undocumented immigrants and unlawful deportation of U.S. citizens, including children, across the country.”

Adding to that, the collection of woke lawmakers further insisted that housing a few illegal aliens on the sprawling, multi-thousand-acre bases would somehow harm readiness, a concern they didn’t articulate when the refugees from Afghanistan were housed on the same bases. Making that claim, they snapped, “Using our country’s military to detain and hold undocumented immigrants jeopardizes military preparedness and paves the way for ICE immigration raids in every New Jersey community.”

Concluding, they insisted that using the military to stop the invasion of America is “unacceptable and shameful” because it politicized the armed forces, ignoring as they did so the many politicized moves of the Biden Administration. They said, “We have the greatest military in the world and using it as a domestic political tool is unacceptable and shameful.”
