In some epic news announced on X, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli noted that a far-left professor in California who was caught attacking ICE agents has been arrested for his heinous alleged crime and is already being dragged into court to answer for what he has done.
As background, the professor who was arrested is Jonathan Anthony Caravello. Caravello is a math professor at California State University Channel Islands. He was arrested after assaulting federal agents who were raiding the marijuana operation at Glass House Farms in Ventura County, California, where a dozen child laborers were rescued and hundreds of illegal aliens were arrested.
Such is what US Attorney Essayli announced in a fiery post on X, saying, “Professor Jonathan Caravello was not ‘kidnapped’ by federal agents. He was arrested for throwing a tear gas canister at law enforcement. He is charged with a violation of 18 USC 111 and will have a court appearance tomorrow.”
The law that Caravello is accused of violating, 18 USC 111, provides, in part, that “Whoever forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates, or interferes with [a federal law enforcement officer] while engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties…shall, where the acts in violation of this section constitute only simple assault, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both, and where such acts involve physical contact with the victim of that assault or the intent to commit another felony, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.”
Essayli’s fiery post came in response to the California Faculty Association claiming, in a post made on Instagram after Professor Caravello was arrested, that the woke professor had been “kidnapped” and was missing. In reality, as Essayli noted, he had been arrested for attacking ICE officers, at whom he had thrown a tear gas grenade.
In any case, the California Faculty Association said, “⚠️ MISSING PERSON ⚠️ Jonathan Anthony Caravello DOB: 02/16/1988 Professor at CSU Channel Islands Kidnapped by unidentified ICE agents at 2:33pm, Thursday July 10th at Las Posas Rd/Laguna Rd community ICE defense protest.”
Continuing, it claimed that the agents who dragged him away weren’t identified, though it admitted they were agents, somewhat belying that pearl-clutching claim. It said, “4 masked agents dragged Jonathan away into an unmarked reason without identifying themselves, without giving the reason for arrest, and without disclosing where they are taking him.”

Concluding, the post added that he hadn’t been arrested and so the group was worried about his “medications,” without noting if the medications were critically necessary or admitting that he was in jail for having been caught in a crime. It said, “It has been over 24 hours since Jonathan’s disappearance and he does not have his medication with him.”
After Caravello was released on a $15,000 bond, the CFA said, “Jonathan is a deeply committed educator and mentor who showed up for their students and immigrant communities—and for that, they were targeted.” It continued, “Their release sends a powerful message: when we organize and raise our voices together, we win. We are in this fight and will not stop until no one is criminalized for speaking out against injustices.”
