WATCH: Trump Goes Nuclear after Gavin Newsom Threatens to Sue Him

In the wake of woke California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) announcing a lawsuit against President Donald Trump over his decision to federalize the California National Guard and deploy it to Los Angeles to put down the anti-ICE riots that are taking the city by storm, President Trump sounded off and went nuclear on Newsom.

As background, President Trump announced on Friday, June 6, that he would be federalizing the troopers in the California National Guard so that they could be deployed into LA and help federal agents like those working for ICE and DHS defend themselves from rioters, who were targeting them in an attempt to delay the ICE raids targeting illegal aliens in the city.

Freaking out, Gov. Newsom announced and launched a lawsuit against the president, saying that the federal government’s takeover of the guard was “illegal” and authoritarian. Announcing the suit in a press release, his office said, “Following President Trump’s call to arrest Governor Gavin Newsom, the Governor and Attorney General Rob Bonta today are filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to end the illegal and unnecessary takeover of a CalGuard unit, which has needlessly escalated chaos and violence in the Los Angeles region. The lawsuit, which names President Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Department of Defense, outlines why the takeover violates the U.S. Constitution and exceeds the President’s Title 10 authority, not only because the takeover occurred without the consent or input of the Governor, as federal law requires, but also because it was unwarranted.”

Speaking directly on the matter in the press release, Gov. Newsom said, “Donald Trump is creating fear and terror by failing to adhere to the U.S. Constitution and overstepping his authority. This is a manufactured crisis to allow him to take over a state militia, damaging the very foundation of our republic. Every governor, red or blue, should reject this outrageous overreach. This is beyond incompetence — this is him intentionally causing chaos, terrorizing communities, and endangering the principles of our great democracy. It is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism. We will not let this stand.”

After that suit was announced, Trump sounded off on Newsom in a nuclear statement to the press. His statement came when he was asked, by a reporter in the room, “You were talking about unrest in American cities. You said, quote, ‘We have to go by the laws. We can’t call in the National Guard unless we’re requested by a governor.’ What changed now? Why is this situation different?”

Responding, Trump snapped that what makes this different is that Newsom is utterly incompetent. He said, “Well, the biggest change from that statement is we have an incompetent governor. So I talked about governors, but I didn’t talk about he’s an incompetent governor. Look at the job he’s doing in California. He’s destroying one of our great states. And if I didn’t get involved, if we didn’t bring the guard in, and we would bring more in if we needed it, because we have to make sure there’s going to be law and order. You had a disaster happening, and they now admit it was a disaster.”

Continuing, the president explained that federalizing the California National Guard was necessary because the police in Los Angeles were on the verge of being overwhelmed, saying, “We did this because [the LAPD] would have they were overwhelmed. You saw what was happening. So we did the right thing. Everybody agrees to that.”

Trump then noted that the LA wildfires showed Newsom’s incompetence, relating the governor’s stubbornness on that issue to the present riot matter. He said, “But you have a governor who let the city burn down, didn’t, didn’t want water to be sent down to him, and I sent billions of gallons of water. I said I wanted to do it in the first term. He wouldn’t do it over. I don’t know they have environmental reasons, but there were no environmental reasons. It’s, I think it’s just a political philosophy, but it’s lucky for the people in Los Angeles and in California that we did what we did. We got it just in time. It’s still simmering a little bit, but not very much.”
