The far left Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing a raft of accusations for facilitating “legalized corruption” through scandals involving hush money, bribes, and high salaries, amidst criticism that such corruption has hindered the city’s response to wildfires.
Not only did Bass award a personal friend a lucrative job with a $750,000 salary, but several Los Angeles City Council members face charges of embezzlement, perjury, racketeering, and bribery. Aside from these direct links, she has been associated with major scandals, including the significant corruption surrounding the awarding of scholarships.
Such was shown when Jamie Court, president of Consumer Watchdog, a non-profit public interest group, explained how “Corruption is ingrained in Los Angeles.” She said, “It’s the story of ‘Chinatown’, and it likely led to the intensity of the fires. It’s a sacred cow and a slush fund for the city, with a serious lack of accountability.”
Building on her case, Susan Shelley, a member of the editorial board of the Southern California New Group, stated, “We have a pay-to-play culture in Los Angeles. It’s legalized corruption, ” adding, “This would be called ‘extortion’ elsewhere.”
Offering his take on Bass’ actions, former LA District Attorney George Gascón said that the mayor’s actions had an adverse effect on the city, “This alleged conduct undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust in our elected officials.”
In addition to the serious allegations of corruption, many took issue with her weak reaction to recent California wildfires. Reacting to the claims, one prominent conservative said, “Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, might actually have to resign. This is pretty damning. She requested an additional 49 million to be cut ONTOP of the 17 million just days before the fires. THIS WOULD HAVE SHUT 16 STATIONS.”
Responding to the post, online conservatives were angered by the apparent ineptitude of the response. One such comment reads, “Okay, if Gavin Newsom is cutting 100 million from the fire department, and she is cutting out approximately 50 million, where did this money go?”

Building on this case, another added, “DEI is not only harmful, but also dangerous. This woman has no idea what she is talking about. What’s next? Planes falling, people poisoned. DEI people have already killed our children’s education.”
Noting the significant issues with the DEmocrats’ DEI polices, one woman stated, “I despise DEI BS hires because of race, gender instead of qualifications. Mayor & Fire Chief are one and the same making high 6 figure salaries and fully unqualified proven by their current actions. The people who lost everything should band together & sue the city, county, fire.”
Blasting the corrupt Democrat, one commenter said, “#CaliforniaWildfires How many times have you heard that diversity is our strength? No one ever says why they just repeat it like a parrot would. It turns out #Diversity kills. Competence is our strength and saves lives. Look no further than the gross mismanagement of DEI LA.”
Questioning Bass’ motives, another declared, “The New FBI needs to investigate this person for foreign conflicts. No way does a person who sworn allegiance to the United States work so tirelessly to undermine her citizens.”
