A Hollywood creator who was accused of domestic violence is now staring down the possibility of additional legal troubles stemming from alleged private messages he was sharing with underage girls.
Justin Roilands, one of the creative minds behind the popular, adult-themed television series Rick and Morty, allegedly sent an unknown number of communications to female fans, many of whom are now saying they were underage at the time of their exchanges.
Now fans are accusing him of “predatory behavior” while using his platform to attract attention from female fans in particular.
Human Events reported that the text messages were revealed to the public after a Twitter user posted the alleged communication between Roiland and adult fans who have since come forward with their accusations.
Female fans, now adults, revealed the text messages that they swapped with Roiland in 2015 when they were still minors. However, it is still not clear how many females were in communication with Roiland while they were underage. Roiland has reportedly denied the veracity of the text messages, but he has not yet provided an explanation for them.
On January 15, screenshots of the messages were posted to Twitter by a user called Marty America. The Twitter thread reveals messages apparently swapped between Roiland and a female, the name of which is unknown.
At one point, Roiland reportedly tells a girl to “run away from home and go into s*x slavery.” In another alleged conversation with the same female fan, he is said to have suggested “then once you turn 18 you can start cam whoring.”

Human Events proceeded with its report of the concerning allegations by writing that Roiland appears to have sent a “flurry of awkward and inappropriate messages to the underage girl.”
The female fan admitted to having initiated the conversation back in 2015, when she says she was just 16 years old. He had followed her back on Twitter and, being excited that a creator of one of her favorite shows had done so, messaged him to start a conversation.
She later wrote about this first contact on Twitter.
“We spoke on kik briefly because he wanted to hear me speak, I sent him a video of me walking around school just talking random stuff at the camera. He was wasted at the time and he sent me a transcription of everything I said in the video and said he couldn’t stop listening to it.”
She continued:
“It’s absolutely crazy to me that there are so many girls out there who have experienced the same thing with him. He has been doing the rounds for years, I haven’t been able to watch the show since 2018 because it just made me ill.”
“The worst part about it was I kinda cared about him? We had some slightly deeper convos but I don’t feel the need to post those, I actually pityed him for his fame and used to tell me he hated himself.”
The Twitter user who opened up this conversation, Marty America, clarified that he did not have the original access to these screen-shotted conversations. Rather, they had been published anonymously by another user. That account has since deleted the images and changed their privacy settings.
Several other accounts appeared to corroborate this one fan’s experience. In other shared images, conversations alleged to have occurred between Roiland and other female fans have similar themes of sexualized langauge.
Still, not everyone is convinced. One Twitter user called the entire operation “fake.”
“[F]ake twitter, instagram, facebook and message apps still exist I literally made a conversation like this for a meme of me and elon musk talking about anime […] If you want attention just get more creative about it, you don’t have to try ruining someone’s life further.”
Still, this isn’t the only concerning aspect of the story. In a podcast dated December 30th, 2011, Roiland appears to suggest that the line between a 13 year old and a woman is blurry. He said:
“One hundred years ago it was little 13-year-old girls – if they were built like a woman they were getting married and having kids. And now we’re going to be all precious about it?”
He continued: “I’m not a pedophile, though. I do follow the law. I wait until they’re 18, if I’m ever so lucky…”
straight from Justin Roiland’s mouth: “100 years ago it was little 13 year old girls — if they were built like a woman they were getting married and having kids. and now we’re going to be all Precious about it?” https://t.co/83p1GCx6qM pic.twitter.com/orJNtUZ6cI
