In a bizarre turn of events, twenty-four-year-old transgender model Isabelle St. Cyr of Monson, ME, has announced her intention to participate in the Miss Maine pageant, drawing widespread condemnation from conservatives.
For context, Maine has been at the center of a controversy about transgender athletes. Governor Janet Mills, a Democrat, clashed with the president over Maine’s far-left laws on transgender athletes, during which Mills famously quipped, “We’re going to follow the law, sir. We’ll see you in court.”
In any case, St. Cyr sat down with the Piscataquis Observer on April 15, 2025, to announce her intention to enter the patent. She said, “I’m just doing it because I love pageants, and I just happen to be trans. I want to show everyone that trans women absolutely can do this pageant and can do well.”
Speaking to her rural roots, the activist added, “Growing up in Howland, I definitely got a lot of bullying,” St. Cyr said. “I got death threats, people following me around, yelling slurs, and throwing things at me in school.”
Explaining her LGBTQ activism, the prospective Miss Maine explained how the pageant bowed to woke ideology. St. Cyr stated, “I think there’s a lack of education surrounding the pageant and how welcoming they truly are now. They’ve opened up and changed the organization for the better, which is why I feel so proud to be with this organization rather than some others that maybe aren’t so open and welcoming to all women.”
Concluding her remarks, the trans-woman explainend how her roots influnced her decision to attend the beauty pagent. She said, “I am trans, but I am also just like everyone else. I grew up in a small town in Maine, and I think that more people, if they gave me the chance, would realize that we have very similar experiences.”
Adding additional context, Ava Clemente, assistant director of the Clemente Organization, which owns the pageant, explained the company’s woke values. She whined, “The Miss Universe Organization is committed to being inclusive and reflective of the evolving values of our society. We celebrate all women who embody the values of confidence, community, and empowerment that the Miss USA program represents.”

When conservative influencer Libs of TikTok made a post to X, conservatives took to the comments to express their disgust. One user asked, “Why don’t they set up their own Trans pageant then? Oh, that means actually doing something, and not playing the victim, and not shoving their lifestyle down everyone else’s throats. Never mind.” Building on this point, another commentator added, “How about a trans pageant? I doubt it’ll get much attention, but at least they stay away from women.”
Angered by St. Cyr’s presence in the beaty patent, many users slammed the woke state of Maine. One such comment read, “No surprise this is in Maine, same state where governor protects men in women sports and men in women spaces.” Another added, “As a Mainer, I will be a little embarrassed if judges pick this guy as the most beautiful woman in Maine. If I were a woman in Maine, I would be very embarrassed.”
Rounding out the comments, one conservative employed the president to take action. The reply read, “@realDonaldTrump is this considered a man playing in women’s sports? Can anything be done about this? The only people who will lose on that day will be the WOMEN who fought hard to make their way to that stage. This MAN needs to get a grip. I hope you can help.
