What’s the new enemy of sustainability? Chocolate milk, apparently, as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, not People for Eating Tasty Animals), lashed out at Elon Musk for tweeting out that he enjoyed a glass of chocolate milk. Yes, really.
It began when Elon tweeted “Chocolate milk is insanely good. Just had some.”
Normal people, upon seeing that, would at least think something along the lines of “Fact check: TRUE!”
But not PETA. No, it lashed out at Elon for the tweet, saying “Drinking cow’s milk is like driving a gas guzzler. The dairy industry is one of the worst contributors to the climate catastrophe. What happened to caring about the environment? Now chocolate oat milk we can get behind 😋”

PETA then got savaged in the comments for that.
One person tweeted “Putting people down for not doing EVERYTHING they can to support a certain issue is annoying and makes many people not want to do ANYTHING just for spite. Food for thought.”
Responding, PETA snapped back that Musk wasn’t doing everything he could because he drinks normal milk, saying “If Musk was doing “everything” he could to help the planet, he certainty wouldn’t be consuming cow’s milk. The best thing that we can all do to help combat the climate catastrophe is to #GoVegan 🌱”
Another commenter said “Why does everything farmers do contribute to climate change? The big cities where you can’t see the stars because of how much nasty stuff is being released into the air is not talked about. At least in rural areas, we can still see the stars. Animals are NOT causing climate change“.
PETA freaked out about that one too, saying “Raising animals for food requires massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water. The best thing that we can all do to help combat the climate crisis is to go vegan.” PETA also said “There is NO need for humans to drink cow milk. Make the kind choice to #DitchDairy and switch to delicious vegan options 😊🌱”
Another person pointed out that oats also require lots of water to raise, saying “Now in terms of oats, since I am from “country side” as you like to call it, take a lot of fresh water and a large field to produce (that means trees must go). In terms of which one is more environmentally friendly, its more towards 50/50 than you think !”
Again PETA snapped back at the claim, saying “Not exactly 🤔 Raising animals for food requires massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water and causes immense animal suffering. By going vegan, one person can save approximately 219,000 gallons of water a year.”
PETA declined to respond, however, when someone posted a picture of a (delicious looking) ribeye and said “Not only is chocolate milk insanely good but so is this. The best prime ribeye I’ve ever eaten. 🤤” Perhaps the image of meat and butter triggered them and they had to go drink some chocolate oat milk to calm down after seeing the tasty cut of meat.
