A gas station clerk in Avondale, Arizona had the opportunity to show how a good guy with a gun can be a hero. That’s because, when an armed man (allegedly) attempted to rob a gas station and was pointing a pistol at the customers, the gas station’s clerk, Brian, pulled out a gun of his own and defended the store and customers.
Fox 10, reporting on the incident and what the clerk said after having to use his firearm to defend the store and its patrons, reported that:
The clerk, Brian, told FOX 10 that he was working a graveyard shift when the suspect came into the convenience store, had his face covered, and mumbled the words “rob” and money.” The suspect then allegedly pointed a gun at the clerk and customer.
Brian says he knew he needed to protect himself and the customer.
“In all reality, he didn’t need to say anything,” he said. “The moment he pointed the gun at me, it was pretty obvious what he was there for.”
The police, in a statement about the incident, said “The suspect became distracted by another person in the store and the store employee took the opportunity to pull out and use his own firearm, shooting and injuring the suspect.”
The police said they will review security camera footage from inside the store as part of their investigation into the robbery and shooting.
The suspect, who was shot by Brian, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No updates have been given and the suspect was not identified.
Despite Democrat attacks on the “good guy with a gun” line used to explain why firearm ownership and use is important, stories like this one show that armed citizens can and do protect their fellows from the predations of armed criminals.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, published an excellent piece on that fact in the fall of 2022, pushing back on Democrat claims that the “good guy with a guy” line is based on a myth and giving the cold hard facts on defensive gun use in America, saying:
In a press conference defending the state’s new restrictions on concealed carry permit holders, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, told reporters last month: “This whole concept that a good guy with a gun will stop the bad guys with a gun, it doesn’t hold up. And the data bears this out, so that theory is over.”
With all due respect to the governor, she clearly hasn’t actually looked at the data.
Almost every major study on the issue has found that Americans use their firearms in self-defense between 500,000 and 3 million times annually, according to the latest report on the subject by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Just this year, a more comprehensive study concluded that roughly 1.6 million defensive gun uses occur in the United States every year.
[…]Restricting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans doesn’t make them safer. It just hinders their ability to protect themselves and others, making them even more vulnerable to attacks by criminals who know their victims are defenseless.
