A special needs dog at a Lexington, Kentucky animal rescue shelter has finally found a new home.
Emmerson is a four-month-old German Shepherd that requires a specially designed wheelchair for dogs in order to walk. She was born with spina bifida, hip dysplasia and deformed knee joints. This means that Emmerson’s hind legs don’t function properly and she is unable to move as other dogs do.
However, Emmerson has found a new owner that is more than happy to accommodate her special needs. Apparently, the adopting owner drove over nine hours to meet Emmerson and take her home.
Paws 4 the Cause posted a heartwarming message to their facebook page, notifying its followers of Emmerson adoption. The post stated:
Yesterday was a very emotional day for us. The long awaited day we prayed for!
Emmerson was adopted and moved on to her forever home. It has been an amazing journey for all involved in caring for her. Her momma drove over 9 hours one way to meet her, and 9 hours back. We’d like to thank her foster family who did an amazing job loving and caring for her. To all her supporters who donated for her care. A big shout out to the people who donated her wheel chairs, among other things she would need. It all went with her to give her a great start to her new life. We are just so proud to all be apart of her journey in life. She is going to have her own Blog, Instagram and Facebook page, so stay tuned for her many journeys in her life with her special needs three legged furry brother. We cried many tears yesterday as she left us. She is an amazing special soul for sure, and we all know in our hearts she is going to show the world nothing can stop her. Have an amazing life Emmerson, we love you to the moon and back. If anyone is looking for a special needs fur baby we have a few please check out our website paws4thecause.com.201 Newtown Pike. New owner Alyssa White is very thrilled to be taking Emmerson to her new home in Virginia. “I knew it from the moment I saw her, I thought she’s definitely going to be my dog,” White said.
General Manager at Paws 4 the Cause Anita Spreitzer said, “It was very overwhelming. Kathryn and I both cried. From the minute I met that puppy, I knew she was going to go on to bigger and great things.”
The rescue organization said White was the perfect owner for Emmerson. White already has two dogs, Beau and Scout, that will make great playmates for the young German Shepherd. Scout also has special needs, having only three legs.
