The LA County Sheriff’s Department recently posted about a tragedy which struck the department when one of the department’s detectives suffered a medical event while driving, saying:
It is with our most profound sorrow that we announce the sudden loss of a family member, Steven J. Lim, a Special Victim Bureau detective and 26-year veteran of LASD. He was involved in a fatal traffic collision earlier today while driving home from his work assignment. He was an exemplary detective who handled the most severe child abuse cases.
Detective Lim leaves behind his wife and five children, as well as his parents and sister. We at @LASDHQ will always be there for his family.
-Sheriff Robert Luna
Few details about the tragedy are yet available, but KTLA did report that:
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detective died after suffering a medical emergency while driving in the Carson area late Sunday, officials said.
The crash was reported just after 10 p.m. near the intersection of West Carson Street and Vermont Avenue.
The deputy suffered some type of medical emergency while heading east on West Carson Street and was involved in a “single vehicle traffic collision,” sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
Detective Lim is far from the only seemingly healthy young man to die suddenly recently. As we have reported on the American Tribune, numerous others have, including a Canadian baseball player, a Las Vegas high school senior, a former Alabama football star, a fire department hero, and even a former American idol contestant.
Reporting on the passing of the high school senior, a GoFundMe raising funds for his family, said:
The Brister family has suffered a tremendous loss, a loss none of them were prepared for. Jordan Tyler Brister suddenly and unexpectedly suffered cardiac arrest while at school with no explanation as to why. Jordan was a senior in high school who planned to join the military after graduating. Words cannot express what the Brister family is going through and there will never be enough answers as to why this has happened. He was an amazing kid who loved life to the fullest.
We would like to raise money to help the Brister family pay for his final farewell during this very painful time. Any donation you can make to the GoFundMe link below will be given to the Brister family for Jordan’s services and anything else they may need at this time. With the many challenges they are facing, let us come together and support them.
His high school, posting about his passing on Facebook, said:
It is with deep sadness and sympathy that we announce the passing of one of our Senior High School students, Jordan Brister.
The Amplus community sends our love and condolences to the Brister family as well as to all of Jordan’s family, friends and acquaintances.
Those that would like to support the family financially can do so by using the Go Fund Me that has been set up on Jordan’s behalf. Link in our Instagram profile or on Facebook.
