When the Biden documents scandal broke, one aspect of it which quickly rocketed to the top of the news cycle was that the university hosting the Biden Center where some of the documents were kept, the University of Pennsylvania, had accepted tens of millions of dollars from Red China.
But that’s not all. According to a recent, startling but not-so-surprising report in the Washington Free Beacon, it’s not just in 2017 and 2018 that the Chinese flooded U Penn with donations. They have done so since his inauguration too, as the Washington Free Beacon reported, saying:
Since President Joe Biden took office in 2021 anonymous Chinese donors have poured millions of dollars to the university that houses President Joe Biden’s think tank, where at least 10 classified documents were identified.
Since Biden’s inauguration, the University of Pennsylvania has received $51 million in foreign funding, including $14 million from unnamed contributors in China and Hong Kong and $2.4 million from unnamed contributors in Saudi Arabia, according to Department of Education records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. The school also received $1 million from a source in the Cayman Islands in June to fund its Penn Wharton China program.
This funding is in addition to the $61 million that the University of Pennsylvania received from Chinese donors between 2017 and 2020, which was reported by the Free Beacon in 2021.
Unsurprisingly, we don’t get to know who those donors are because the Biden Administration is keeping them hidden, as the Washington Free Beacon also reported, saying “The names of the newer foreign donors are being kept under wraps by the Biden administration’s Department of Education—a departure from prior administrations that would publish this information in an online database. American universities that receive federal grants are required by law to disclose their overseas funders to the government.”
So Biden’s think tank is hosted by a university that was flooded with tens of millions not only once he left the White House, but also once he re-entered it. And it’s where classified foreign policy documents were kept for years without oversight or scrutiny.
Yet worse, according to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, those donations must have influenced the Biden Administration.
“The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating President Biden’s possible illegal handling of sensitive, highly classified documents.Recent reports reveal President Biden’s attorneys discovered Obama-Biden Administration documents in an unsecure closet at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement—a Washington, D.C.-based think tank affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. “President Biden’s pattern of mishandling classified documents is alarming. The Committee is concerned about who had access to these documents given the Biden family’s financial connections to foreign actors and companies. The American people deserve to know whether the Chinese Communist Party, through Chinese companies, influenced potential Biden Administration policies with large, anonymous donations to UPenn and the Penn Biden Center,” wrote Rep. Comer.
“The Penn Biden Center appears to have acted as a foreign-sponsored source of income for much of a Biden Administration in-waiting. Between 2017 and 2019, UPenn paid President Biden more than $900,000, and the university employed at least 10 people at the Penn Biden Center who later became senior Biden administration officials. This level of access and opportunity raises questions about who had access to the classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center. It is imperative to understand whether any Biden family members or associates gained access to the classified documents while stored at the Penn Biden Center,” he continued.
In the statement including those comments, the House Oversight Committee also said “The Committee has learned UPenn received millions of dollars from anonymous Chinese sources, with a marked uptick in donations when then-former Vice President Biden was announced as leading the Penn Biden Center initiative. Following the formation of the Penn Biden Center, donations originating from China tripled and continued while Joe Biden explored a potential run for President. In addition, the Committee is concerned that UPenn officials offered lucrative, foreign-funded salaries to President Biden’s closest political allies to secure senior posts in a future Biden Administration and foreign actors funded those salaries to influence a future government.”
