Every day, America strays further and further from sanity and its Christian roots. Even simply wearing clothing that supports the Christian faith is now considered offensive in certain parts of the country, especially in the Mall of America.
A video went viral earlier this month of a man speaking to security inside the nation’s most iconic mall, as they ask him to remove his “Jesus Saves” tee shirt. Security guards told him that the shirt, which has the ‘coexist’ logo crossed out with ‘Jesus is the only way’ written in its place, was offending patrons and that it must be taken off. One security guard can be heard explaining the reason that the shirt is causing issues, and it’s as ridiculous as this all seems:
“Jesus is associated with religion and it’s offending people.”
The guard made the situation even clearer when he accused the man of soliciting:
“Again, I’m giving you a couple options. You can take the shirt off and you can go to Macy’s and you can do your shopping.
Or you can leave the mall, OK? Those are your only options right now.”
“Again sir, it is religious soliciting. There is no soliciting allowed on mall property, which is private property.”
From what was said in the video, it seems that the man was asked to leave on a different occasion as well for “preaching the gospel” and was banned for at least 24 hours.
According to a Mall of America spokesperson who spoke to the Daily Mail, the man eventually got his way and was not forced to remove the unoffensive shirt:
“The guest referenced in the video was approached by Mall of America security on January 7, 2023.
One week prior, he was issued a 24-hour trespass for soliciting guests.
After a brief interaction, the guest was not required to change his shirt and was allowed to remain at the Mall.”
Plenty of users on Twitter shared their disgust with these guards who sought to silence a man for wearing a “Jesus Saves” shirt.
“Jesus Saves! I love the message on this man’s t-shirt—but the Mall of America in MN didn’t. Security guards approached him & told him to take the shirt off or leave. One guard is on video saying, ‘Jesus is associated with religion & it’s offending people,'” said one user.
“For those saying that Mall of America was correct to remove the Christian man because his shirt was offensive I ask this question. What if someone was wearing a shirt that said “Trans women are women” and some people were offended. Should they do the same to that person,” another user pointed out.
In the end, it seems that even though the security guards believed that wearing a Christian shirt is a “form of soliciting,” common sense won the day and the patron was allowed to remain in the mall. At least tolerance seemed to win out in the end.
I automatically assumed this was overseas, but it's right here in America. pic.twitter.com/Q79eUCG7xh
