Pete Hegseth Brought the Receipts to Beat the Fake News Media at Its Own “Smear Piece” Game

Back when President Donald Trump was still the president-elect and announced that he would be making then-Fox News Channel personality and Army veteran Pete Hegseth the Secretary of Defense, the media brought out the kitchen sink to try to destroy Hegseth. Fortunately, Hegseth was ready, and demolished their attempts by bringing the receipts, showing how the media can be defeated at its own game.

The matter revolved around a leftist media outlet called ProPublica, which was gearing up for a report in which it was going to claim that Mr. Hegseth was not accepted to West Point in 1999. Mr. Hegseth has noted repeatedly, for reference, that he was accepted to West Point, so the report would have made him look like a liar.

But then Hegseth obliterated “Left Wing hack group” ProPublica by bringing the receipts and posting, on X, a picture of the acceptance letter he received in 1999. Captioning it, he said, “We understand that ProPublica (the Left Wing hack group) is planning to publish a knowingly false report that I was not accepted to West Point in 1999. Here’s my letter of acceptance signed by West Point Superintendent, Lieutenant General Daniel Christman, US Army.”

ProPublica’s Jesse Eisinger scrambled to cover up the matter on X, saying that his outlet had contacted West Point and it told him that Hegseth was never accepted, a serious matter that would mean the Security State apparatus was collaborating with the media apparatus to lie about Hegseth, defaming him in an attempt to torpedo his nomination.

Exposing that aspect of the matter on X, Eric Daughtery, a prominent news account, said, “🚨 REPORT: West Point Military Academy gave a false statement to left-wing outlet ProPublica that nearly fueled the publication of a hit-piece against Pete Hegseth. They claimed Hegseth NEVER applied to attend West Point and wasn’t admitted. In reality, he did, and was admitted.”

Daugherty further added that Hegseth had managed to defeat the smear attempt by bringing the receipts, saying, “Hegseth got out in front of the story this morning, and West Point corrected their lies – resulting in ProPublica NOT publishing the smear piece. The witch hunt is going way too far against this man. Confirm him. @PeteHegseth came with receipts.”

Commenting on the matter on X, Sean Malone, a pro-liberty filmmaker, wrote, “This is a perfect example of how media bias largely functions through story selection and omission. There is an obvious story here: Someone tried to fabricate a(nother) hit piece on Hegseth. But they failed because Hegseth had the receipts.”

Malone added, “That is an interesting and relevant story in and of itself, but it makes Hegseth look good and makes his opponents look like liars. Since that’s not the narrative these people want to promote, the whole story gets ignored. If you only publish the stories that fit your narrative and pass on the ones that hurt your narrative, you’re not actually being a journalist. You’re an activist propagandist and little else.”

Also commenting on the matter was political blogger Ames, who has a large X following. Ames wrote, mocking the media’s failed attempt to torpedo Hegseth, “They can’t take him down, and they’re getting so frustrated lol Hegseth just beat the fake news media at its own game, and he brought receipts…”
