In a ridiculous rant on CNN on Thursday, February 20, former Republican congressman and current CNN regular Joe Walsh claimed that President Donald Trump appears to be a “Russian asset” or “plant” of the Russian Federation government because of his hostility to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who Trump has said is acting like a dictator because he has canceled elections.
Such is what Trump did, as background, in a Truth Social post that he began by saying, “Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle.”
Trump then questioned why America didn’t get loan guarantees like Europe, writing, “The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back.” He added, “Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation. On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is ‘MISSING.’”
Then, hammering Zelenskyy, Trump said, “He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.” He also said, “In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only “TRUMP,” and the Trump Administration, can do.”
Concluding, Trump wrote, regarding the end of the war, “Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…..”
It was in response to that series of comments from President Trump in the Truth Social post that former Rep. Walsh argued that President Donald Trump appears to be a Russian plant or asset of some sort. He told CNN, “The American president right now could be a plant, could be a Russian asset. I mean, think about that.”
Continuing, he claimed that Trump is anti-Zelenskyy because Putin has blackmail on him, saying, “Here I am. I know it’s early in the morning to say something like that, but think about that. And if the American people don’t care about that, that Putin might have something on Trump, that he’s an asset, that he’s a plant, that he’s doing the bidding of Vladimir Putin.”

This isn’t Walsh’s first time making such claims. As Fox News Digital reports, in a previous incident, CNN host Jim Scuitto asked him, “I just wonder, for your party, what it means for the U.S. president to not just overlap with some Russian talking points on the war, but straight up repeat them, repeat the Russian rationale for the invasion, repeat the Russian framing, repeat the Russian description of the elected Ukrainian president. Straight up, repeat them. What does it mean?”
Responding, Walsh told him, “Straight up, he’s siding with Putin. The President of the United States is siding with Vladimir Putin, period. We know, I know, privately, this is just pissing off Senate Republicans especially. But, Jim, Trump’s hold on this party is a thousand times stronger than it was before November.”
