White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently illustrated the Trump administration’s plans to remove taxes on numerous items, including social security. Commentators suggested the massive spending cuts the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has already enacted could cover the proposed tax cuts.
Leavitt laid out President Donald Trump’s proposed tax cuts, which would include ending taxes on senior citizens, social security, overtime pay, and more. The plan is being celebrated as the largest tax break in history for middle-class Americans, renewing the cuts he enacted during his first administration in 2017.
“So these are the tax priorities of the Trump decisions that the President has laid out for members in that meeting today. No tax on tips, which is obviously a very public campaign promise the President made,” Leavitt said. “No tax on seniors, Social Security, no tax on overtime pay, renewing President Trump’s 2017, middle-class tax cuts.”
The press secretary continued, “Again, these are the President’s priorities. Adjusting the SALT cap. Eliminate all the special tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners. Close the carried interest tax deduction loophole, tax cuts for made-in-America products.” She emphasized, “This will be the largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans. The President is committed to working with Congress to get this done.”
Libs of TikTok shared the clip on X, writing, “President Trump’s plan for the “largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans”: -No tax on tips -No tax on seniors’ social security -No tax on overtime pay Renew Trump’s middle-class tax cuts -Adjusting the salt cap -Eliminate all special tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners -Close the carried interest tax deduction loophole -Tax cut for “Made in America” products LET’S GO!”
One user opined in the comments section, “Tax on service worker tips brings in $5B a year.
Tax on Social Security brings in $51B a year. @DOGE already saved enough to cover several years of those cuts … and counting!” However, one person suggested this does not account for the apparent fraud that occurs in the government. “Not nearly good enough after seeing the fraud we have endured,” they said.
The American Tribune previously reported on Trump discussing his plan to eliminate tax on social security income before the election. “To get economic relief to workers and families, I will make the Trump tax cuts permanent, and we will have no tax on tips, which she copied. You all know by now, she came out a few days ago and she said, ‘There will be no tax on…’ I said, ‘I said that months ago,’” he said last summer.

Calling out the Kamala Harris campaign for copying his idea, he said, “But, here’s one that she hasn’t copied yet. To help seniors on fixed incomes who are suffering the ravages of horrible inflation caused by Crooked Joe and Kamala, there will be no tax on social security.” He added, “And, I get it done. I will get it done. They won’t. They haven’t even promised it to you, but, they won’t get it done if they do.”
