A resurfaced video from 2018 showed First Lady Melania Trump surprising troops stationed in Iraq for Christmas. Supporters on social media shared the video during this past Christmas season regaling the days of the first Trump administration when the commander-in-chief and the first lady were willing to enter a volatile war zone to visit the troops who defend the nation.
The video showed President Trump and Melania posing for a photograph with a group of soldiers suited up in full combat gear. The president and first lady made sure to shake hands and speak to every single soldier, demonstrating their humility and respect for the soldiers. In the rest of the footage, Trump and Melania walked through the rest of the base and greeted other service members.
The popular conservative commentator Jimmy Falk shared the footage, writing, “President Trump and first lady Melania Trump enter a war zone to make a surprise visit to US troops in Iraq Christmas 2018. That’s a true Commander-in-Chief.” Numerous other X users poured into the comment section echoing the same praise.
One person noted that the media never reported on such a positive story about Trump, choosing to focus on smearing the president instead. “That was something…and media as usual barking about something negative happening! They were so happy…” the comment read. Another comment read, “A Commander & Chief who worked tirelessly not only for us at home, yet took the time to show his love, honor and respect for our troops who could not be home for Christmas!! President Trump is a one of a kind, True Leader!! ”
Another supporter said, “I remember that! I loved that President Trump snuck over there to surprise our troops! Talk about a morale boost!
And the press was snarky and surprised!
”. A similar comment stated, “This had to have been one of the most memorable moments of The first term. I couldn’t even imagine being there for this.”
The American Tribune reported on a heartwarming message from Trump this past Christmas in which he spoke about the true meaning of the Christian holiday. “For Christians all across our nation, around the world, this is a sacred season that begins 2000 years ago, when Jesus Christ was born, an angel declared to the shepherds tending their flocks. Behold, I bring you good tidings, great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord,” Trump said.
Honoring first responders and the U.S. Military Trump continued, “Tonight, we honor the first responders who risk their lives to save the lives of others and all of America sends our profound gratitude to the incredible men and women of the United States military. And I’m proud to say our military right now is stronger than ever before..”
