First Lady Melania Trump made headlines for her stunning outfit at Monday night’s inaugural ball. She wore a custom black-and-white dress that complimented President-elect Donald Trump’s sharp-looking tuxedo. The duo left the attendees in a state of awe as they celebrated their return to the White House. The designer who made the dress spoke out, noting that it was an “honor” to have dressed the first lady for the occasion.
The French-American designer of Melania’s custom-made dress, Hervé Pierre, said, “It is a big honor to have collaborated with the First Lady on the design for her inaugural dress.” Further explaining the themes of the dress, the designer continued, “It was clear that Mrs. Trump was gravitating towards a combination of black and white – true to her own style and vision.”
Furthermore, the Hervé Pierre Creative Director Instagram account wrote, “It was such an honor to create the dress for the First Lady Melania Trump tonight.. I can’t thank her enough… it was a wonderful project, a great collaboration… as always !!!! A big thank to @atelieryqs for helping me on that project … your work is impeccable
”
Additionally, Eric Javits, the designer of Melania’s critically acclaimed black-and-white hat, which she wore at the inauguration ceremony, also spoke out about the iconic accessory. According to Javits, he had never even seen Melania wear the hat until Inauguration Day but was blown away upon seeing it atop the first lady’s head.
“I thought she looked amazing, very polished, very pulled together. I think it reflected the formality of the occasion,” the designer said during a recent interview. Javits explained that he was especially honored, because it was not confirmed that she would wear it in the first place. “And of course, I was deeply honored, because I didn’t really know if you know if she would wear it or not, until I saw it on television.”
The interviewer noted, “I’m surprised to hear you say you weren’t sure exactly. You went through a lot of work for this hat?” However, Javits explained that, due to the last-minute changes such as the event being moved inside the Capitol Rotunda, he wasn’t entirely sure if that would affect Melania’s choice of outfit for the ceremony.
“No, of course. But you know, there were changes in the venue and all that. So, you know, you can’t really assume anything,” he told the interviewer. “And you know, I sort of feel like it wasn’t really a wow hat, except it was very understated, very elegant and appropriate,” he added. “But when she put it on, and I’ve never seen you know her wearing it before, because I never had direct contact with her in person or anything,” he said, making his design even more impressive. “So I really felt like her presence and her sort of inner grace and beauty, really kind of brought the whole thing alive, and really became it became a focal point.”
