In the headache-inducing hearing that was the introductory confirmation hearing for Pete Hegseth, the Army combat veteran and former Fox News Channel personality who is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the Secretary of Defense slot, not just one but two female Democrat senators shouted at him.
The first was Kirsten Gillibrand, who even smacked her desk when yelling about Hegseth’s views on women in the military. That incident, at least, concerned Mr. Hegseth’s views. Not the second. That one, involving Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois), concerned President-elect Trump and his views rather than Mr. Hegseth.
In that incident, the woke senator, shaking her hand wildly while doing so and pointing at him, shouted, “How can we ask these warriors to train and perform to the absolute highest standards when you are asking us to lower the standards to make you the Secretary of Defense simply because you are buddies with our president-elect?”
Continuing, she then bizarrely shouted about the president-elect’s prior business reverses and confusing his personal finances with business bankruptcies. She declared, “And by the way, he has filed for bankruptcy six times. I’m not quite sure he’s the kind of CEO you want to refer to as a successful businessman.”
The Vigilant Fox account on X (formerly Twitter), using the incident to note that the hearings generally were a mess, captioned the clip by noting, “In a moment that perfectly characterized the entire hearing, Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois) seized the opportunity to take shots not only at Pete Hegseth but also at Donald Trump.”
Continuing to describe the mess, that account noted, “This made it abundantly clear that Democrats aren’t genuinely concerned about Hegseth’s qualifications for Secretary of Defense. It revealed that they are still bitter about being blown out in the election and are now fixated on stopping Trump at any cost.” Watch the incident here:
In another awful moment, Sen. Tim Kaine asked, “Did you ever engage in any acts of physical violence against any of your wives.” Hegseth told him, “Absolutely not.” Kaine kept referencing the discredited story, saying, “But you would agree with me that if someone had committed physical violence against a spouse, that would be disqualifying to serve as Secretary of Defense, correct, Senator?”
Hegseth told him, “Absolutely not have I ever done that.” Kaine then snapped, “You would agree that that would be a disqualifying offense, would you not?” Hegseth noted, “Senator, you’re talking about a hypothetical.” Kaine then declared, “I don’t think it’s a hypothetical. Violence against spouses occurs every day. And if you as a leader are not capable of saying that physical violence against a spouse should be a disqualifying fact for being Secretary of the most powerful nation in the world, you’re demonstrating an astonishing lack of judgment.”
