Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly recently weighed in on ABC News anchor David Muir over his display of “abject vanity” during live coverage of the wildfires in Los Angeles. Kelly sounded off on Muir, arguing that he was “playing dress up” while “wearing a fake fireman’s jacket” while reporting on the sheer devastation of the fires.
For context, during the broadcast, Muir was wearing a bright yellow flame retardant jacket, similar to those first responders wear. However, as David turned to survey the scene, showing his side profile, a clothespin could be seen cinching the back of the jacket, presumably to improve how the aesthetic appearance of clothing fit around his body.
The incident has since sparked backlash online. Giving her two cents on the matter, Kelly addressed the controversy during a recent episode of her SiriusXM podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show.” She said, “What you’re seeing on the close-up as he turns to reference the scene behind him and shows us his back, which clearly he wasn’t anticipating would make it on cam, his clothes pins, pulling his jacket in, cinching it…so that his waist looks more svelte on camera.”
Without mincing any words, Kelly excoriated the “abject vanity of this man,” while suggesting he was “pretending to be a fireman.” The former Fox News host continued, “This is not dress-up time. That’s something that my little boys did when they were still in the single digits…not on the news when people are dying.”
“What are you doing?” Kelly asked in bewilderment. “Yes, he’s an actor who’s worried about his own vanity and beauty on camera. God forbid you think David Muir might be a little boxy in the waist,” she added, further criticizing Muir’s apparent concern with his appearance during one of the costliest natural disasters in American history.
The American Tribune recently covered insider reports on the incident, in which anonymous sources at ABC News claimed to be “embarrassed and horrified” by Muir’s conduct. “His narcissism is quite large in the sense of this kind of thing. I like David, except for this part of him. Anderson [Cooper], [Chris] Cuomo wear all the [muscle shirts], but they would never wear this [during a wildfire],” the insider reportedly said.
One person wrote, “People are literally dying and this man is focused on looking snatched. 🙄😮💨” Calling out the apparent vanity in the midst of the crisis, Rock n’ Roll legend Ozzy Osbourne’s son, Jack Osbourne, said in a post on X, “Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground.” Make a similar statement, Mollie Hemingway said, “ABC News propagandist @DavidMuir was the one who got his “fact” “checks” wrong in the presidential debate. He reportedly is called “Zoolander” at his gym because of his vanity.”
