Hollywood celebrity Barbara Streisand recently took to social media, blaming the devastating wildfires in California, at least in part, on “climate change.” In the wake of the fires, which have destroyed tens of thousands of acres, leveled thousands of structures, and claimed at least 16 lives, some on the left have pointed to climate change as the culprit.
Writing on BlueSky, a platform which liberals have fled to as Elon Musk has promoted freedom of expression on X, Streisand claimed the intense winds that have carried the fires could be the product of climate change. “These horrible winds I think are the strongest we’ve ever experienced and a lot of that is due to climate change which this coming government better address!” the actress wrote.
However, Streisand received push back in the comments section. “Why does a scientist that Obama appointed to DOE during his term disagree? If you can explore the possibilities as written by this scientist, it may be interesting : Steven Koonin,” one person wrote. Another comment read, “The incompetence of the leadership in CA is mind-blowing. We all know you don’t believe in climate change scam and we also know why you have been pushing this propaganda.”
Others pointed out that strong winds in the region are not a new phenomenon. Another contrasting statement read, “The Santa Anna winds blow EVERY YEAR. The hills catch fire EVERY YEAR. This has been going on for CENTURIES. But let’s blame “climate change” because blowing money on illegals & pet projects is more important than THE SAFETY OF THE CITIZENS for democrats.”
Over the past several days, Streisand has made several other posts about the ongoing natural disaster. “We will miss President Biden’s commitment and compassion during these difficult times. He knows that in times of national crisis, we are not divided by political parties,” she said, before slamming Trump. “Trump doesn’t care about California because he didn’t win the electoral college here. We need a president who supports every state. Not just the red states!”
Extending her condolences to those who have been forced to evacuate or have lost everything, Streisand said, “I know the fear/anxiety of evacuations and waiting to see what happens to your home in natural disaster. Some of my dear friends/colleagues have now lost their homes. I am grateful for their lives and the incredibly brave work of the LAFD. My heart breaks for all my neighbors and our beloved city.”
In contrast to the prevailing liberal narrative, those on the right have pointed to incompetent leadership in California as the cause of the crisis. President-elect Donald Trump recently wrote on Truth Social, “The fires are still raging in L.A. The incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out. Thousands of magnificent houses are gone, and many more will soon be lost. There is death all over the place. This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our Country. They just can’t put out the fires. What’s wrong with them?”
