In a very funny and wacky troll of the senator that most Americans used to suspect of not having overly many brain cells to rub together, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman hilariously trolled the media with a bizarre remark about why he is meeting with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago shortly before the inauguration, saying he wants to be “made Pope of Greenland.”
As background, Trump has commented on taking over Greenland in recent weeks. For example, in a Truth Social post about his pick for the Ambassadorship to Denmark, he said, as Denmark controls Greenland, “I am pleased to announce Ken Howery as my choice for United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. Ken is a World renowned entrepreneur, investor, and public servant, who served our Nation brilliantly during my First Term as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden . . . For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Ken will do a wonderful job in representing the interests of the United States. Thank you Ken, and congratulations!”
At another point, Trump told reporters, “We need Greenland for national security purposes. I’ve been told that for a long time, long before I even ran. I mean, people have been talking about it for a long time. You have approximately 45,000 people there. People really don’t even know if Denmark has any legal right to it, but if they do, they should give it up, because we need it for national security,”
In any case, Sen. Fetterman, humorously referring to those comments when walking through the halls of Congress and accosted by reporters demanding to know what he and President-elect Trump will be discussing at their Mar-a-Lago meeting, joked that he is going to tell Trump he must be made “Pope of Greenland.”
That came when a gang of reporters, seeing him leave a senate office, approached him and asked if they could ask him questions as he walked. That was allowed, and one of the group then asked him, “What will you be discussing with the president?” Fetterman, breaking out the joke, said, “Well, yeah, I demand that I need to be made Pope of Greenland.”
Another reporter, then chiming in, asked, “Are you — do you have the resume to be pope?” Fetterman then responded more seriously, saying, “I’m having a conversation. Like, he’s the president and it’s gonna be — so, you know, I am not the senator for just Democrats in Pennsylvania, I’m everyone’s senator in Pennsylvania. And so it’s just having a conversation with the president.” Watch that interaction here:
Commenters on X loved Fetterman’s remarks. One, for example, joked that Trump could turn the comment into a massive media troll, saying, “Trump will come out of a press conference with Fetterman now and name him Pope of Greenland just to watch heads explode. Don’t give him ideas.🙄😂😂😂”
Others chimed in with comments like “The man has a great sense of humor. He should be a Republican because Democrats have no sense of humor” and “We should forever refer to him as Pope of Greenland 😂🤣 he’s doing what the rest of his party should be doing! The election is over work to improve your country! Be a proper opposition and stop attacking.”
