In a quite entertaining incident on ABC’s “The View” just a week after the November 5, 2024, presidential election, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg tripped on air and almost face-planted when walking on stage for the broadcast of the show and headed toward the large table around which the co-hosts sit.
The incident, which came on November 11, 2024, occurred when Whoopi walked out onto the daytime talk show set behind two of her fellow, leftist co-hosts, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro. As she did so and the show’s characteristic Leona Lewis theme song, called “This Version,” played, Whoopi looked like she tripped over her own two feet and fell forward, just managing to catch herself and get upright again instead of face-planting.
As was caught on tape and thus easily and hilariously viewable, the leftist co-host of the woke show tripped and started to tumble forward, catching herself by sticking her arms out and stumbling forward, with that stumble turning into a slow and short jog as she managed to regain her balance and head to her seat.
Entertainingly, Whoopi’s fellow co-hosts did not appear to notice the embarrassing gaffe, or at least were polite enough to keep their snickers internal and not mention the incident. Whoopi, however, obviously knew that those watching the show would probably have noticed the incident, and thus sought to address it during the day’s broadcast.
Commenting on what happened as she managed to get to her seat and sit down, Whoopi told them, “I don’t know what I tripped over.” Continuing, she noted that she had to bounce along forward as she tried regaining her balance, saying, “It was crazy. I was like, skip, skip, skip, ah! I thought, oh, here I go. So, I’m steady on my feet now!”
Not letting the issue drop and continuing with it just a bit later in the show, she then joked that she felt like she had on two “new feet,” saying, “I feel like I have on new feet, walking is very strange.” And, continuing with it as she welcomed the show’s viewers, she said, “Well, y’all almost saw me bust my booty but I didn’t. I’m here, upright.”
Then, wrapping up her discussion of the incident, Whoopi transitioned from trying to laugh it off to commenting on why the table to which she was heading when she tripped was down a person, noting that while Joy Behar was always gone on Mondays, Alyssa Farrah Griffin was out sick. She said, before transitioning into attacking Tom Homan, “Alyssa is out sick and will be back tomorrow if she’s feeling better.” Watch her here:
As could be predicted, the incident led to commenters on X (formerly Twitter) roasting her with a vengeance. In response to one posted clip of the incident, a commenter joked that Whoopi should be called “Whoopsie Goldberg*.” Another said, jokingly blaming President-elect Donald Trump, “Why did Trump try to trip Whoopi?” Still another questioned how “The View” is still on air, saying, “How is this trash still being aired?”
