Taylor Swift had a booming 2022, topping the charts with her album Red (Taylor’s Version) and winning Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. Now, an old interview between her and maligned former TV star Ellen DeGeneres is making its way across Tok-Tok.
@thatnostalgicgirl in this interview she’s 100% describing being on the Ellen show 😤 #taylorswift #swiftie #k18results #taylorsversion #swiftok #theellendegeneresshow
In the video, which has now gone viral on Tok-Tok, Swift is sitting next to Ellen in a 2012 interview as pictures of male stars flash on the screen behind them. Ellen is heard telling Swift to ring a bell each time she sees a star who she dated in the past. Taylor Swift immediately seemed uncomfortable with the request according to the Independent, saying:
“I don’t want to. They’ll send me angry emails, and I don’t want to get them.”
“Stop it, stop it, stop! This makes me feel so bad about myself. Every time I come up here, you put a different dude up there on the screen, and it just makes me really question what I stand for as a human being.”
Among the numerous people who commented in support of Swift was Emily Ratajkowski. The supermodel seemed appalled at the interview and wrote a firm message of support for Swift:
“This is so f***ed up. She is literally begging her to stop.”
Fox News shared a quote from a 2019 Taylor Swift video in which she talked about an interview that made her feel uncomfortable and she seemed to be referencing back to this show with Ellen:
“When I was like 23 and people were just like kind of reducing me to… making slideshows of my dating life and putting people in there that I’d sat next to at a party once, and deciding that my songwriting was like a trick, rather than a skill and a craft… It’s a way to take a woman who’s doing her job and succeeding at doing her job and making things… in a way, it’s figuring out how to completely minimize that skill.”
This is obviously not the first time that DeGeneres has found herself in hot water over the past couple of years. Following a 2020 Buzzfeed article claiming that Ellen mistreated her staff, public opinion of the once beloved interview/comedian plummeted. She most recently made an attempt to return by creating a “woke” animated series that wound up getting canned by HBO as it was purged from their content lineup.
According to Fox News’ Caroline Thayer, the interview may not have caused a massive rift in Taylor and Ellen’s relationship like many had speculated online. Thayer wrote the following about their recent appearances together:
“However, Swift did appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” several more times before it wrapped in 2022.
Two weeks ago, the show’s YouTube channel even uploaded a compilation video of all the times Swift had joined DeGeneres on her talk show.
