With the Biden presidency finally wrapping up and President-elect Donald Trump on the verge of entering the White House to replace him, we wanted to reflect on some of his funniest (if also distressing and depressing) moments, as a reminder of just how jaw-droppingly awful he was, particularly when it came to showing his inability to deal with things in his old age. Amongst the craziest moments from his presidency, then, was this one: when he walked away during an interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace.
The awful, but also quite funny, moment at hand came during July of 2023. Then, he agreed to do a sit-down interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace and appeared for it, but things got incredibly awkward when he awkwardly stood up and walked off the set while the live interview was still on air, showing what was then suspected and has since been admitted to be his cognitive decline.
The particular moment came when President Biden, realizing that the interview was getting somewhat close to being over, though it still wasn’t actually over, said, “I’ll be a president for every American whether they voted for me or not.” Nicole Wallace then thanked him for doing the interview, saying, “Mr. President, thank you.”
It then got even more awkward in a hurry, as the elderly president stood up to shake Wallace’s hand and said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Wallace then told Biden, who was at that point standing up and looking like he was ready to head off, not to leave, saying, “Don’t go anywhere. It’s a very exciting day around here. We’ll have reaction and analysis to everything we just heard.” Biden walked away anyway.
As could be expected, the internet gloated and derided Biden for the awful moment. For example, the Citizen Free Press (formerly Twitter) account, posting the clip when it occurred, wrote, “Joe Biden just stood up and walked away as Nicolle Wallace was finishing her interview with him. Where is he going. Bizarre behavior.”
Replying to the CFP clip of the incident, one commenter noted that, if one takes the president’s actual cognitive health into account, its not that surprising or non-normal. That commenter said, “There’s nothing bizarre about an old man with dementia just getting up and walking away. Perfectly normal for an old man with dementia.”
Similarly, another commenter on the CFP post questioned whether the president’s perspective on Democrat control of the media might have impacted what he did, saying, “Because he thought he owned the news so when they ask real questions he gets up and leaves. Next step is to have repercussions for those that ask real questions. Just like all good dictatorships.”
Townhall, the conservative news site, posted about the incident as well, describing it as awkward and noting that though the segment was ending, Biden didn’t just wait for it to end and instead got up and walked off. Townhall said, “Joe Biden awkwardly stands up and walks off the set of his MSNBC interview instead of waiting for the segment to go to commercial.”
