Based on recent rumors, Costco shoppers could be in for a significant update to the wholesale grocer’s beloved food court. According to reports, Costco may be switching to Coca-Cola products in its food court as early as 2025. Subsequently, the claims have generated a buzz of excitement online where Costco enthusiasts are “super happy.”
The website Costco Insider reported on the news last week, writing, “After over a decade, Costco is switching back from Pepsi to Coke products in their stores. The change will bring Coke, Coke Zero and Diet Coke, as well as Sprite instead of Starry.” For context, Costco previously switched to Pepsi products from Coca-Cola in 2013 in what was described as a cost-cutting measure to keep their critically acclaimed hot dogs at their low $1.50 price.
Editor of Costco Insider Matt West voiced his anticipation for the change after hearing receiving confirmation of the news from “multiple sources.” West explained, “Personally, we are very excited about the change. Having been lifelong Costco fans, we were very disappointed with the change 11 years ago.”
Revealing that the brand change-up is supposedly set to occur in early 2025, the website added, “Coke has a much higher focus on the quality of the product coming out of the machine, including guidelines on machine maintenance, syrup mix and more to ensure a consistently great experience for Costco customers.”
The American Tribune reported on other recent rumors surrounding Costco, where some claimed that the store may be changing its famous muffins. However, instead of creating a sense of excitement, the alleged muffin change has led to a wave of criticism from users who want to retain their favorite flavors and sizes of the muffins.
One user on Reddit shared a lengthy post explaining the matter. “I became a Costco Member from the Day they over took Price Club 30 years ago. One of the MAIN REASONS I became a Member was the ability to buy the MUFFINS they WERE FAMOUS FOR. Yesterday when I was notified about the change of there muffins with size, quantity and price, I was VERY UPSET about it,” they wrote.
Claiming that Costco is starting to sacrifice its values, they continued, “Costco is Slowly starting down the path that had led to the demise of many other businesses. They up the price for membership. They discontinue carrying other products that were a big draw to membership and now, Downsizing the Signature Costco Muffins.”
The irate user added, “Costco is getting to be more like a Walmart. And I do not pay for a Membership at Walmart. And Walmart’s Muffins are the same, and they offer more food items which can lead me to rethink why am I spending money for a Membership when I can apply the $60 towards my food bill somewhere else. COSTCO take notice. I am calling you out. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL MUFFINGS and quit getting to be like other businesses LIKE Von’s and Ralphs and Kroger’s and other grocery chains the skimp on quantity and change a higher price.”
