NFL legend Randy Moss recently made a heartbreaking announcement that he is battling cancer between his pancreas and his liver. Moss took to Instagram last Friday, informing fans of the diagnosis, noting that he is a “cancer survivor” after spending nearly a week in the hospital undergoing surgery. Moss expressed gratitude toward his doctors, team, and supporters who have offered their thoughts and prayers.
“I am a cancer survivor,” Moss said. “Some trying times, but we made it through.” The former superstar wide receiver explained to viewers of the live stream that doctors found cancer in his bile duct “right between the pancreas and the liver.” Moss added that the news shocked him as he believed he was healthy. “I didn’t think I would ever be in this position, as healthy as I thought I was,” he said.
Moss announced earlier this month away from his role as an analyst on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” to address personal health concerns. “As soon as I get healthy to get back out with guys, I will be on set. … Hopefully I can be with you guys soon,” Moss said, stating his intentions. “My goal is to get back on television with my team.”
“(Moss) briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1. For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating ‘Countdown’ with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready,” according to a statement from ESPN’s.
Addressing the viewers during last week’s ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Moss said, “I just wanted to let the viewers know that me and my wife and my family are battling something internally. I have some great doctors around me. I couldn’t miss the show. I wanted to be here with you guys,””I feel great. But if you see me with these ‘Michigan turnover glasses’ that I have on, it’s not being disrespectful because I’m on television. It’s because I’m battling something. I need all the prayer warriors. God bless you all. Thanks for the prayers.”
Moss said during his livestream, “Well, I don’t even know who’s on here, and I appreciate, appreciate everybody coming on. And you know, y’all know, I’ve told y’all over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally, and your boy is a is a cancer survivor, and I get, I’ll get into that a little bit more in a few minutes, but, you know, I just want to give a shout out to a lot of people that really helped me pull pull through this. Been in the hospital for six days. I just got out today. Thank God.”
The NFL legend continued, “So first and foremost, I’d like to just thank God for really just blessing me and my family through this trying time and me being able to come out of this surgery and fight and battling cancer. So my doctors, Doctor Lingo, Doctor Zamar, Doctor shalindra, Doctor Rizza, Doctor Martini. That’s my doctors. The best that Charlotte has to offer. Man, I appreciate it, some of the best around the whole country, not just in the city of Charlotte, the CAMC 11th tower. Boy, did I have fun with you guys for this whole week? You know, I have my sons in there. I had a lot of family in there, but everybody came through.”
