After the former president and current President-elect Donald Trump beat out Vice-President Kamala Harris, Princess of Wales Catherine. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, billionaire Elon Musk, and podcast sensation Joe Rogan to win TIME’s “Person of the Year” award, Democrats freaked out.
As could be expected, much of that panic occurred on X (formerly Twitter). Amongst those leftists who lost it over the news was someone named “Jamie Bonkiewicz,” who ridiculously declared, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. Time is about to crown a twice-impeached criminal as ‘Person of the Year.’ No wonder no one trusts the media anymore.”
Commenters on Jamie’s post agreed. One, for example, declared, “They just announced Caitlin Clark as athlete of the year and they follow that up with the exact opposite with Hisler jr?” Another said, “I cancelled my subscription to Rolling Stone when they put the Spice Girls on the cover. Time has now lost all credibility with me as well. Sad. Once a highly regarded and trusted news source, but no more.”
Yet another commenter said, “A convicted felon. Say no more. You are right in that the media has no credibilty.” And, amongst the many others making comparison’s to TIME’s choice of Adolf Hitler at one point, a commenter said, “Hitler was also a man of they year for time. It doesn’t mean he’s a good man. He’s the biggest p.o.s. since Hitler so it makes sense.”
Adding a bit of sanity to that particular freak-out, one quote-tweeter of Jamie’s original post noted that those who routinely freak out about TIME’s choices don’t understand that the award is supposed to be the most consequential person for the year, not the person with whom TIME most agrees. That poster said, “Low IQ low info people freak out every year about Time’s “Person of the Year”. Read the criteria. Ranting about Time’s POTY is a sure sign the person is dumb.”
In any case, another X personality, this one going by “KrisOnTheGramTV▪︎,” quote tweeted TIME’s post about the award and ridiculed the publication for choosing the president-elect because he is a “felon,” saying, “WTF !!!! 😒😒😒 Tell me you’re Smoking Crack, w/o telling me you’re SMOKING CRACK !!!! Felon 47, the Person of the Year. This publication is a Joke!”
Commenting on TIME’s post, a leftist named “Ron Smith,” declared, similarly, “We had better people but decided to go with the convicted felon? Time is a joke.” A commenter on Ron’s post noted that that’s not how the law works, and one is only a “convicted felon” when sentencing happens, saying, “He hasn’t been convicted yet dummy so until then he isn’t a Convicted Felon.”
Also chiming in in TIME’s comments section, a commenter going by “Pinky Stanseski 🇵🇸🇺🇳🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🇺🇦She/her” declared that TIME was in the wrong for its decision because of Trump’s decisions and character, saying, “I’m shocked your magazine honored Donald Trump, because Donald Trump never did anything honorable.” As with the others, Pinky seemed to not understand the criteria for the award.
