First Lady Jill Biden recently caught herself during remarks at the White House when she spoke about the “joy” Americans were feeling amid the Christmas season. However, the word “joy” was closely associated with the Kamala Harris campaign, and as Biden continually used the phrase in her remarks, the audience burst into laughter.
While speaking at a conference for women’s health research, the first lady called for optimism stating, “And that just for a moment, when you leave here today, that you feel, I don’t know, a little a sense of joy. Because i think we all need like this, you know, we all need to feel joy now, during this, this time of the season, during just during this time.”
As her remarks incited laughter from the crowd, Biden quipped that they were “reading into” her comments. “So, anyway…okay, now you’re all reading into that. So I hope that you all feel that sense,” she said, seemingly realizing how she referenced the catchphrase from the Harris campaign. However, conservatives on social media have claimed Biden was intentionally overusing the word joy to take a jab at Vice President Harris.
For example, conservative commentator Nick Sortor wrote, “JUST IN: Jill Biden is now OPENLY MOCKING Kamala Harris’ “joy” line. The audience even knows what’s going on, and breaks out into laughter.” Continuing Sortor leaned into speculation that Jill Biden may have even voted for Donald Trump in protest to how her husband was treated by the Democratic Party when Harris stepped up to lead the ticket. “Anybody still think Jill Biden DIDN’T vote for Trump?” he asked.
The popular account emergent perspective also shared the clip from the White House, opining that, “Jill Biden calls for everyone to embrace “Joy!” at this time. She knows exactly what she’s mocking, and she even acknowledges that everybody will be reading into that. I’d say this confirms – she hates Kamala so much, she helped Trump win.”
Others in the comments section saw Jill Biden’s remarks as another indication that she perhaps voted for Trump last month. Many in the comments section shared photos of the first lady wearing a red suit to vote on election day, a move that was widely interpreted to signify which party she voted for at the ballot box.
The American Tribune reported on Vice President Kamala Harris finally breaking her silence in the weeks after her decisive loss to President-elect Donald Trump in the election. Harris offered a message of hope and perseverance to her followers, encouraging them their “power” cannot be taken away from them. “I just have to remind you, don’t you ever let anybody take your power from you.” She added, “You have the same power that you did before November 5th and you have the same purpose that you did and you have the same ability to engage and inspire. So don’t ever let anybody or circumstance take your power from you.”
